Guerrette grabs Tri-State Enduro By Paul Clipper/ Trail Rider Magazine OXFORD, MA, APR. 26 H onda rider Bur t Guerrette topped the field at the NE T RA T ri-Sta te Enduro; dropping 15 points over the rocky terrain and barely edging out Eric Benoit by a single point. The Tri-State signaled the snow-less start of the new season. The official start of the season was th e Snow R un Enduro on February 22, but thi s was New England 's first chance to not slip and slide around for the year. Or was it? T he local wet weather co mbi ned wi th the sp r ing thaw produ ced a nasty grease ou t of the local soil. Co m b in ed w ith th e general " boneyness" of the run, most riders had th eir tongues hangin~ ou t a t o ne poi n t or the ot her. " We didn 't try to pu t any mud sections in the run," one of th e club memb ers said. Edge ANCHORAGE, AK, APR. 26 Suzuki pi lots J oe Good and J eff Roskell ey put on an im p ress ive di splay as the y di ced for the win in th e 125cc Expert and P ro classes in th e Alaska Motorcycle Racing Association 's season opener mot ocross. Good pulled the first 125cc Expert moto holeshot with Roskelley in clo se pursui t. T he two pulled a way from th e rest of- the pa ck as Go od led Roskelley arou nd th e wh oopedout sand course. 'Roskelley looked lik e his old self as he flew his Jim Stewart-sponsored R M after Good. La pped traffic soon had the pair swapping lead s, but a brief off track exc urs io n put Good five seconds beh in d Roskelley. A little breathing room was all Roskelley needed to take the moto win over Good. The second mo to fou nd Kaw asaki of Anchorage's J ason Anderson out front bu t a few comers later it was Roskell ey wi th th e lead. T his tim e it was Roskelley's tum to make a mistake and numerous bobb les let Good slip by for first. Go od held it on until the finish , taking the overall win with hi s 2-1 over Ro skelley and . his 1-2 finish . And erson placed th ird with a 5-3 ta lly. The Pro class at AMRA sanctio ned events is an open disp'lacem ent race for mon ey for any ski ll level. Kawasaki of Anchorage-sponsored Jim McClain sho t in to th e lead in mo to one but on th e secon d lap was passed by Good. Roskelley had a hard time getti ng by McClain and wh en he did on lap four, Good was lo ng go ne. Good finis hed ahead of Roskelley wit h McCla in a distant th ird. McClai n repeated h is first moto holesho t in mo to two with Roskelley in tow. Good had a bad start and found himself in midpack. Roskelley passed McClain on th e th ird lap whi le Good wo rked extra har d as he edged hi s way through traffic. T he battle betw een Good and Roskelley never mat erialized as Good 's rear bra ke ar m broke and left him to wat ch Roskelley run away with th e wm, McClain 's Kawasaki of Anch orage team ma te Pat Crabb chall enged him for second and by the mo to end claime d the ru nner-up posit ion . The day's firs t ga te dro p feat ure d _ th e huge 250cc Pro field wi th Suzuki rider J eff Sta nford gain ing th e ear ly advan tage over Pascar ell and T ony Spear riding a Suzuki Countrypr epared RM. As th e lead rid ers pulled away from . the main pack, Pascarella and Stanford engaged in a fierce duel for the lead wh ich Pascarella fin all y settled in a pass that was later di sputed by Stan ford and then dropped in the spirit of good sportsmans hip . Stanford finished the race in the number-tw o position with Spear holding o n to th ird with Honda rider Doug O 'D onnell p laci ng fourt h after back luck drop ped him from an earlier bat tle wit h the leaders. In round two Pascar ella demonstrated his superior speed thro ugh ou t th e mo to to reach th e checkers first and take th e overa ll win as . H onda r ider Ga ry Butcher an d Stanford argued over th e runner-u p slo t wi th Yam ah a pilo t Kevin Allman. Butcher go t th e nod a t the checkers but Stanford's 2-4 score gave him th e seco nd-p lace purse over Butcher, as Spear ended th e day fourth overa ll and Allman took fifth wh en O 'Donnel dropped out. Cagiva rider Mike H eal ey absolutely dominated bo th the Open Pro and 125cc P ro races with Yam ahamounted Rex Stat en tak ing second in the Open event and Stanford once again earn ing th e number two cash in the I25cc battle. Seri es leader in th e Open Novice event, J eff Solee had to sett le for th ird overa ll today as Kawasaki rider Mar k Shuck and H onda-mo unt ed Ruben Alvarado placed one and two in a closel y fou ght d uel. H onda rider Rudy Chavez used a 3- 1 sco re to outpoint hi s 250cc Beginner rival s with Yam ah a pil ot Kris Barker taking second ahead of Denni s Burn s o n a no ther YZ mac hine.
