James Domay was first, followed by Moore and Peter Carroll And while Yamaha FZR750s aren't currently allowed in the AFM Stock Production class, Jim Vreeke did put his FZR to good use in the 750cc Superstreet race. Vreeke took a decisive win over the Suzukis of Peter Christensen and Jeff Stem. Tommy Lynch was fourth. Results ERIC JENSEN S ERIC'S MOTORCYCLE CO. Mill PIIIin Rd. ~.CT06811 4 (203) 796-7589 GARDENA, CA, APR. 16 Week number two o( the 1987 racing season at Chris Agajanian's Ascot South Bay Stadium (eatured a war. The war was staged in a race more co~monly referred to as the Handicap main and at the end o( the eight-lapper it was Shawn McConnell surviving. Jimmy O'Dell had the lead o££ the 20 on the start, but when they came to tum (our on lap one McConnell caught a piece o( the leader and by the time bodies and bikes stopped slamming into one another (ive riders were involved. Alan Christian came out the wost (or wear with a banged up left hand but he was able to make the restart. On the second try to run the event they hadn't gone 10 feet when the red flag was rnrown for riders rolling o££ the 40-yard line. Even though the red came out immediately there was still a crash. McConnell slowed down (or the red, but Gary Hicks apparently didn't see it. Hicks was headed directly (or McConnell in turn one and when he took evasive action to miss McConnell he flipped over the bars. That was all she wrote (or Hicks as he couldn't make the call (or the restart. The third time they tried to run it the action got as far as turn two on the second lap before a wild six· rider tangle took place. The fans went wild as bikes and bodies flew through the air. This crash was again triggered by O'Dell and McConnell. Both were down (or quite some time with O'Dell apparently su££ering a concussion. The race was restarted with O'Dell o££ the penalty line. Northern Cali(ornia number one Bart Bast led the event (rom the start all the way until lap seven. Bast, who suffered a concussion the previous evening in "San Berdoo", apparently had fatigue set in and he went to (ourth in one lap. McConnell ended up being the new leader with Mike Faria in close pursuit. McConnell (Team Swollen!Aarrow/Car Tunes/ Cirello/Scott Goggles Weslake) managed to hold on- (or the last two circuits and he won by a couple o( bike lengths over Faria, Christian and the remainder o( the lucky survivors. The next morning it was discovered that McConnell had broken his wrist in one of the crashes. The Scratch main paycheck and trophy again went home with "Boogaloo" Bobby Schwaru. Coming off gate one and riding extremely fast on the night was "Flyin' Mike" Faria but Schwaru, out o( two, blasted out o( the gate and paced Bobby Ott, Faria and Christian into turn one. Faria ducked inside Ott on the back straight on lap one (or second with Christian relegating Ott to the back o( the pack one lap later. Schwartz (CTI Brace/Justice Brothers/Silkolene/Cirello/Oakley Weslake), opened up some breathing room on lap three. One lap later Schwaru had his sixth Scratch main win in a little over a week. Faria again placed a close second with Christian and Ott some distance back in third and (ourth. Results SCRATCH: 1. Bobby Schwonz (Wea); 2. Mike Faria (Jaw); 3. Alan Christian (Wea). HDCP: 1. Canet excels at WillowRR ROSAMOND, CA, APR. 19 Calm winds and sunny skies blessed Willow Springs Raceway this Easter, . and were the best conditions yet for AFM races held this year at Willow. The relative lack of wind made 250 Ninja racing very competitive. Although Don Canet took both the 250cc Modified Production and Superstreet wins,' both races were continual three-way dices for the lead between Canet, Chuck Graves, and Paul Van luyle. While Graves was . second in Superstreet, Van luyle took it from him in the Modified race by drafting past Graves at the finish, beating him by half a bike length. Randy Renfrow showed up with his Honda RS250 and easily took the F-2 and 250cc GP wins. In the GP race, Robert Dewitt put his Yamaha TZ250 in second in front of Chris McNellis. Honda-mounted Keith Kiyota was fourth. Novice Tommy Lynch put on quite a show in the 750cc Stock. Production race by dicing with, and eventually passing Vance and Hines' Richard Moore for second. By Bill Holt BYRON, IL, APR. 12 David Brill took advantage of a fast track to grab both moto victories and the gold in the 125cc A class at Byron Motosports MX. Not to be outdone by Brill, Bob Behrens rode the wheels off his Kawasaki to claim the 250cc A class honors. Brill controlled the show in' the 125cc A division, as he motor.ed to two convincing moto victories. Kevin Papaeko took a sixth in the first moto, but bagged a second in moto two which was good enough to garner him second overall. Eric Lewis' !I-5 was good for third overall. Behrens cleaned up in both 250cc B class motos with Rick Munson and Todd Williamson following him home in both motos to round out the top three spots. Munson bounced back to claim a first in the Senior class over Victor Paskus. Dave Berquist kept up his winning ways in the Junior Mini class as he jammed to a double moto sweep of the class. second place went to Troy Wright with a 5-2 total and third went to Mike Holloway with a 4-4 tally.
