The Portland-area rider breezed to I-I wins in the Up the Hill class, which caters to 24 to 29year-olds on machines of unlimited displacement. The Up the Hill and 30-40 classes ran combined, with the younger Up the Hill pack gating a quarter of a lap ahead of the 30-40 class contestants. Kirkpatrick and Scot Bergren dueled in the first moto followed by Don Schnieder and Kawasaki rider Mark Dickey. Kirkpatrick crashed and dropped to second, but came back and got around Ber~en to take the win in the Up the HIll division. Bob Leach came from well back to settle in among the Up the Hill contestants to win the 30-40 Pro portion over Dan Summerlin. Moto two was all Kirkparrick's. After taking the holeshot ahead of Bergren, he went on to a good-sized lead. Schnieder and Leach once again came from nearly a half lap down to battle with the Up the Hill clan. Leach's rally brought him to within inches of Schnieder at the completion of moto two, which was good for the 30-40 Pro overall. Kirkpatrick, however, was the dominator of both motos, good for a I-I blitz in the class over Schnieder, Bergren, Mike Markham and David Schad. Leach topped both 30-40 events for top cash over Summerlin (2-2), Gary Beaver (3-3) and Tracy Lantz and Rick Herbst, both on Hondas. ln the 30-40 Trophy class, Doug Wiley topped both mOlOS for the overall ahead of Brad Mikkelson and Ron Postma. .
