YOUR SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TOYOTA DEALERS PRESENT THE TOYOTA ** Organizer Loyal Truesdale (left) poses with winner McCarthy. La Carrera (Continued from page 14) Carrera Classic for the debut of their 1987 EX500 twin, and it was impressive. With some throttle-happy journalists aboard, trying to make them break, four EXs finished in the top 10. It was non-journalist Olin Daunell, however, winning the class on his privatel y-owned EX500. "Race proven" still means something. Speedos were pegged at 130 mph on the long straights. Dave Roper journeyed from New York to win the Vintage class on his trusty 1962 Matchless G50 single and Georgian Beno Rodi finished on his 1938 BSA Gold Star despite girder forks and a built-in peed wobble that only a giant like Bena could hold in check. Fran Crane on her Kawasaki 250cc Ninja was the faste t woman to the checkered flag, placing 25th overall. Truesdale and co-organizer Cliff Carr created the new "Centurion Class" for riders whose ages, added to the ages of their motorcycles, totalled 100 years or more. It was won by Mickey Shann'on (70) on his 1955 BMW R50. The Sidecar class was dominated by Ozzieand Ralph Aueron a BMWI EML combination that blew by our trike Iike a land rocket. Larry Coleinan and Mike Taylor, last year's winners, placed second and the Highway One Special, driven solo by Bradley Jarvis, notched third in class, with no problems, even at 100 mph. I was pleased with the result of its first outing. Race proven, indeed! • - ALPINE CAR AUDIO CHALLENGE CUP WEEKEND ** • ::::.-- . -- --.-.
