Harden's off-road school is fun and very informative. We did plenty of riding, listening and watching. --------------------Harden has raced professionally since 1972 and signed his first factory contract in 1977 with Team Husq. varna. During his racing career, Harden won the Baja 1000; finished no worse than eighth overall out of six Barstow-to-Vegas desert races; ridden the International Six-Days Enduro three times, collecting gold, silver and bronze medals; was the Open class ISDE Qualifier Champion in 1982; claimed the SCORE/ Hi-Point Series Champion trophy twice; and has 80-90 regional desen racin~ wins to his credit Editors of the motorcycling press recently were invited by Harden to attend a 'simulated one-day riding school just outside the small town of Tecate. The get-together was intended to give the jounalists a basic idea of how the Harden Off-Road Riding School works. Although we didn't follow Harden's typical class routine to a tee, we did learn about, and take part in, many of Harden's lesson plans, which consisted mostly of actual riding drills to help Harden stressea the importance of turning a motorcycle quickly and smoothly. He has riders execute turning drills while he watches. concentrates on the fundamentals of off-road riding skills, physical and mental training, and motorcycle preparation and safety. The latest school isn't Harden's first venture into the off-road riding instruction business. Five years ago, Harden and accomplished off-road racer Larry Roese1er teamed up and conducted off-road riding schools. But commitments to busy racing schedules for both Harden and Roeseler eventually put an end to the Harden/Roeseler off-road schools. Recently, though, Yamaha support rider Harden resumed his offroad riding school enterprise, and this time he's running it primarily on his own, with the help of his wife Kristi. . "There are people out there who want and need this type of education," says Harden. "My goal is to help riders of all caliber, and to make them safer and better riders to keep them involved longer and to attract more people into this spon."
