Team Beemer launched the only twin, powering up 14 places in three hours with some imrpessive riding by young Jerome Russo and George Powell,. only to suffer a bent valve in the fourth hour. worked his way up to second and Kiley held on for third. In the second moto Palmer took advantage of crashes to move up into the lead and again take the moto victory. Kiley followed Palmer home for second and Joiner claimed third. In the first Pro moto Ed Kiley grabbed the holeshot' with Palmer not far behind in second and Keith English following in third. Palmer lost second to a charging Russell Grater when Grater was able to clear the set of doubles and leapt past Palmer into second place. Grater was bounced out of second quickl'y though as Palmer got back around him on the straightaway. Palmer worked his way past Kiley and into the lead shortly after that and never looked back. Jody Joiner (Hon). Dowell wins Moon RockHS By Dana Boyer Duke Dowell piloted his Honda CR250R to the overall victory in the Moon Rocks Hare Scranible, bea,ting out Open Expert Jay Heying. Dowell said, "The course was great, there was no dust and the weather was excellent The course offered some of everything. It really wore me down, I'm just glad I didn't have to go another lap." When the riders came around in the early in lap one AMA District 36 Number One plate holder Lance McPhee had the lead, but Vet Expert Phil Douglas took the lead by the first check. Behind Douglas it was McPhee, Greg Searle and Dowell trailing. At the end of the first lap McPhee was back in the lead, followed by Searle, Dowell and Douglas. At the halfway point of the race Dowell had taken over the lead with Searle and Dave Porter close behind. As the race wore on Searle had jammed his wrist and McPhee was also having problems. Dowell took advantage of this and began to stretch out his lead. At the end of the six 18.5-mile loops Dowell took the checkered flag five minutes in front of Heying, who was the first Vet Expert. Third overall was Mike Harper, Douglas dleweight Superbike win Sunday at J:irebird Raceway. Knox took his self-tuned Yamaha FJ600 to the winner's circle after an exciting dice with Kawasakimounted Rick Williams. This win marks Knox's first victory in the Superbike class. Knox and Williams met again in the Supersport class with disappointing results. Williams led the first seven laps of the 10 lap sprint before Knox fought his way into second place. Knox was ri~ht on Williams' rear fender when Williams lost the front end of his Kawasaki Ninja and crashed, takin~ out Knox. "It flat happened qutck," said Williams after the accident Carlos. Rao inherited the lead on his Desert Cycle-sponsored Yamaha FJ600 and raced home to the Middleweight Supersport win. Kye Gunn took the overall win in the Stock Production race on his Suzuki of Tucson/Buds Out Backl Sparks Cycle-backed Suzuk GSX-R 750. Mike Williams raced to second overall on his Suzuki about 15 seconds ahead of third overall Scott Willock. Willock took the Middleweight crown on his Yamaha FZ600. Gunn came back later in the day to . claim the Heavyweight Supersport race, Bob Utley and Mike Williams went head-to-head in the Unlimited Superbike race. Utley led every lap but the one that counted, the last one. Williams got underneath Utley in the final turn to take the checkered flag first. Utley got his revenge in the Formula race. The Hughes Helicopter technician stayed out in front of Williams to claIm second behind overall winner Gunn. In addition to the regularly scheduled sprint races, PRRO also sponsored special vintage races which brought entrants from New Mexico, California, Colorado and of course Ariwna. Vintage I action saw Mick Frew's Star Cycle-sponsored m350 Yamaha lead Jim De Rosa's R5 across the finish line after a racelong battle. Kevin Elliot starred in the Vintage II class on his self-sponsored Yamaha. Elliot led second place Mike Legris across the finish line by 10 seconds after 10 laps of racing, The very fast Triumph of John Scott scored the Vintage IV victory after keeping Frew's Yamaha TD350 at bay. Scott had problems late in the race which slowed his pace enough to let Frew get around him, but Frew was later disqualified after a protest. First in Vintage III went to the BSA of Andii Adamick. Adamick finished sixth overall on hi& selfsponsored BSA B-50. Second in Vintage III was claimed by Dave Fiorelli riding a BSA Gold Star with Sidney England taking a well-
