WA.T CHI T! ~ lOS ANGELES SATURDAY: 3 pm KOOC Los Angeles .SUNDAY: 1 am KOOC los Angeles .~ By Robert W. Harlan SUNDAY: 9 pm EST, 6 pm PST Tempo cable Network BRYAN, TX, MAR. 21 In this season's first endurance at Texas World Speedway, Garland Suzuki rolled to a convincing first overall on their Suzuki GSXR-750 and first in Heavyweight Production in the six-hour race. Last year's number one Heavyweight Superbike, Team Scream, gave up the lead in the second hour to Garland's riders, Mike Martin and Robert W. Taylor. Team Scream's Suzuki GSXR-750 finished two laps down, but was first in Heavyweight Superbike. The cool, overcast day may have made this the only comfortable endurance race Texas racers will enjoy at the normally scorching Bryan track. Team Scream's Mike Gleason took the holeshot off the start, leading the pack with some 1:55 laps on this !l:0 mile course. An impressive third overall finish and first in the Mediumweight Superbike class marked the debut of the Ken Harvey-captained team's Honda 600 Hurricane. Harvey's team, Western Sizzlin'/BMH, took the Mediumweight Superbike endurance title in the CRRC last year on their Honda 500 Interceptor, while their Hurricane is as of yet stock. Middleweight Production first and second went to Yamaha FZ600's fielded by Keene Racing and Team Metz respectively while Team Banzai took third on the only high finishing baby Ninja. . Typical of endurance racing, the hottest ridin~ of the day had little to do with fmal outcome, as Brisa Racing's Britr Turkington charged back in the fifth hour after an early crash. Brisa Racing's Suzuki GSXR750 soon lapped the pack and 'drew even with Team Scream's Superbike Suzuki, and had one of the tightest dogfights of the day. Both riders passed and repassed each other while .DOC-TV NAnOIlAllY Garland Suzuki rompsaf Texas World RR .to l!'1LJ • SUZUKI QUAD RACER CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES Hosted by: Larry Huffman.
