The stage is now set for a showdown between these two racers at Canyon Raceway next week because only eight points separate them. Pryor has the advantage, but he must not DNF the final race. Pryor easily leads the 250<:c class with a 24-point advantage over his nearest rival Eric Kirk. Blose missed the first three rounds of the 250cc class and is essentially ou t of the running. Deano Cowan took the overall win in the 250<:c Amateur class Sunday with a perfect score to cinch his victory in that class. Cowan dropped <;mly two points during the. ennre senes. Although Brent White mopped up the 125cc Amateur class Sunday with double moto wins, Cowan holds the aces in that class also. Cowan's nearest contender, Wes Parker, broke his collarbone at Firebird three weeks ago and could only take seventh overall this week. Cowan leads Parker by 15 points. Chip Young continued his domination of the 125cc Novice Modified class, but ended up second in both motos to Jeff Peterson in the Stock class. Peterson's fast, consistent riding gives him a seven point lead over Young and he looks like a shooin for the championship. The 125cc Beginner class ha been the largest class throughout the series and one of the toughest. John Rich managed a two-moto sweep Sunday, but Darren Donaldson will take the senes crown. Paul Dunne, 250<:c Novice rider, scored yet another victory with a 2I finish over Anthony Cabodi. Dunne is uncatchable in the points race with 160 points. Dunne never scored less than fourth overall during the entire series. . Cody Burns took his Honda to the winner's circle Sunday and the class championship. Burns has essentially tied up the 250<:c Beginnner class with an impressive performance throughout the season scoring 156 points in the process. The Pee Wee class has had Scott Young written allover it since the first race. Young has won every moto in seven outings to score a perfect 175 points. The Junior Cycle class is another story entirely. Jimmy Mokry and Jason Matthews have gone head-tohead throughout the series. Mokry missed the first round, but his consistent finishes put him three points ahead of Matthews going into round eight. Matthews must win and Mokry has to score worse than second to take the crown. Mini beginner Wayne Perry took both motos Sunday over second . overall Matt Slaughter, but Eric Fairleigh, who finished third overall Sunday, leads the class with nine points over Perry. Latecomer to the Mini Novice class, Earl Goudreau scored the overall Sunday over Nick Bramner, but Honda rider Pat McMullen leads the points chase with 144 to Demastry's 135. Pete Wickersham will undoubtedly take the poorly contested Mini Amateur class championship. Open novice Neal Inman leads his class by 25 points over second place Doug Fleming. Mike McGinnis took both motos over Inman Sunday, but the Yamaha rider missed five races. Jim Renner leads Rich Hinchliff by 10 points in the Open Amateur class while Bill Meyer dominates the Old Timer class. Meyer has never finished out of the top three all season long. Beyer won both 125cc Pro motos on his Kawasaki and later topped the 250<:c Pro class on a Honda, also with 1-1 rides at the next to last race of the Motocross Northwest-sanctioned Oregon Winter Series. Three riders dominated two classes apiece during the day's program. David Cotter, Beyer and Rob Spring turned in the double win performances. Cotter dueled with Hondamounted Dave Eaking in both motos, using 1-1 rides to bag an Up The Hill class win over Ray Gamon. Gamon grabbed two thirds for second overall. Ex-1970's pro Eric Burkinshaw trailed Cotter in moto two for a win in the combined Up The Hill/30-40 class over Eakin, Mike Holbrook and Bob Leach. Cotter also won both Open B contests. Spring continued his reign of terror in the state of Oregon with his wins in the I25cc and 250cc C classes. Spring put his Honda out front of a 16 rider 125cc field in moto one and battled it out with Joe Rushing. Spring rode a flawless first moto to win over Rushing and Troy Fuller. In moto two, Rushing applied the pressure on Spring the entire eightlap race. Spnng slammed the door shut on Rushing's advances, netting a 1-1 tally for his first of two overall victories. Rushing (2-2) took· second while Fuller, Joe Casey and Tod Gillett filled the top five. The 250<:c C class also went to Spring with 1-1 rides. Jeremy Skokam followed both motos for a 22 second while third went to Ron Westlake with 4-3 finishes. The 1~5cc Pros and B riders ran together, staging in two waves. Beyer and Kenny Olsen traded plastic in both motos. Olsen led the first moto until the duo got too close, sending Olsen sprawling to the ground for a northern Oregon turf test. Beyer, Olsen and Craig Lambert led the Pro pack. while David Browning topped the B portion in moto one. Beyer also dominated moto two, building up a good sized lead over Olsen. Olsen mounted a charge late in the race and closed in for the kill, but ran out oftime. Finishing behind Olsen were Browning and state 125/ 250<:c Amateur champ Darrin Rogers, who started in last and worked up to second in the B ranks, good for a second overall ahead of Bobby Steiner. Beyer also dominated the 250<:c Pro/B swapfest. The Roseburg HondaITeam Taylor-supported pro outpaced fellow pros Don Bisceglia and Tim Walker for a I-I demolition and top cash. Coming out on top of the B portion was Dan Gregory. Gregory used his 1-2 rides for first place brass with Burkinshaw taking second via 3-3 postings. Third went to Steiner (2-4) over number one plate holder Rogers, who won moto two, but finished a dismal ninth in the first moto, good for fourth overall ahead of Mitch Kirkpatrick. Doug McKuhn led a Kawasaki sweep of the top five in the 60cc C
