Team Husky's Dan Smith squeaked in with
'a slim 20-second lead to take the win at the
Hare and Hound
Desert Race Extravaganza, sponsored by the Ba4gers M. C. at
Fr~mont Valley.

Despite leading for most of

the fast-pace d 76-ml e race,
Smith faced 'Some unusually
tenacious competition and was
unable to build up his usual com-

the finish it was touch and go-for
the AMA' Amateur Athlete of the
Year all the way to the checkered flag.
This was an especially important
win for Smith. In addition lo receiving district points for overalling the
event, the victory puts the Team
Husky ace out front in the Best in
the West Series - a new series
sponsored by.District 37's Competition Committee that will honor the
,best all-round rider in southern
California.
