The 125cc Expert races saw Matiasevich (37), Thomson (772), Denny Stevenson (360) and Brian Emig (4) Matiasevich/Kalos battle a few' seconds later. Manley }IIouldn't let Thomson out of his sight, but at the finish, it was Thomson taking the checkers by jusi a few bike lengths. "Manley was there giving me a lot of pressure the whole time," said Thomson, "so I couldn't make any mistakes - and I didn't." Matiasevich and Kalas battled right down to the wire, and in the S turns before the finish Kalos made his move. The two riders touched in a corner and they both went down. Kalos got going first to take third, his 2-3 score edging Manley's 4-2 for second overall. Kalos said, "At the finish line I went for it, and I thought it was a clean move. I went on an inside line and tapped him a little bit and we both went down. I was going down first and he went with me." "We came late into the corner and he ran into me," Matiasevich said. "We both slid out and he got up first, barely, and got across the (finish) line." =" Emig started the weekend strong with a holeshot in the first Mini Senior moto. Jason Schullz, Kitsch and Chad Pederson followed. By the second lap these four had spread out, each rider maintaining a few seconds over his closest competitor. On lap four of the five lap race, nobody in this group could make up any ground on the rider directly in front. But on the last lap, Kitsch moved by Schultz, and Pederson had dropped him to fourth at the finish line. Fifth place went to Hondamounted Grayson Goodman. Moto twO looked to be another Emig benefit when he grabbed the holes hot, but the race was red£l~ due to a malfunction in the staruq gate. On the restart, Emig wasn't so lucky as he got away sixth behind Pederson, Kitsch, Goodman, Schultz and Chris Neal. "I had the holeshot again/ Emig said, "but I got caught up in some mud." Kitsch quickly passed Pederson, and Emig quickly moved up to third. Emig's troubles in the mota weren't over, though. "I hit some tires with my shoulder, and it just pulled me 0(( the bike," he said. Emig's run-in with the tires didn't cost him a position, but it did seem to take-away his drive as he made no further progress on Kitsch and Pederson. Kitsch took the win and overall; Pederson's 3-2 was good for third overall behind Emig's 1-3. Schultz and Neal had a close battle for fifth on the final lap when a rider feU in a rutted turn in front of Schultz. Schultz had to take evasive action, which shot him 0(( the bike. He ran alongside and remounted in the following turn, but eal got the drive up the next hill and took the position. In the Mini Open class, Neal jammed into the lead at the start of the first mota with Emig, Schultz, Willy Bowden and Jimmy Button close behind. Emig moved into the lead on the first lap, and by lap two, Kitsch had moved into fourth, and Pederson took over the fifth position, as Button fell to the back of the pack. Emig pulled out a few seconds over Nealon his way to victory, and Schultz held 0(( Kitsch's advance to hold third. Pederson was fifth. Kitsch led the start of mota two ahead of Jack Ricks III and Emig. Emig quickly passed Ricks, and before the first lap was over, Emig had taken the lead from Kitsch. Goodman held fourth over Button. At midmoto, Emig had moved out and away from Kitsch, and Button passed Goodman. A lap later, Pederson moved in and also passed Goodman, setting the order for the rest of the race. Kitsch got close to Emig near the end, but Emig held on to secure- his first overall victory of the weekend. Ricks was third; his 7-3 good for the same overall behind Kitsch. Emig started the first Mini tock 14-16 'moto in front ilOd tayed there to the end. Tim Hodes was second 6(( the line but was pas ed on the first lap by Schultz. Schultz held second until he fell back to the rear on the fourth lap, moving Kitsch into second. On the last lap Pederson passed Neal to secure third behind Kitsch and Emig; Hodes took fifth. Emig got out front once again at the start of mota two ahead of Pederson, Goodman, Brent Peterson, Neal and Schultz. Emig quickly establisned a few bike lengths over Pederson ...:.. a lead which came in handy when he fell early on the second lap. Pederson took the lead and Goodman slipped into second. Emig gor-going quickly right behind Goodman and passed him a short time later, but Pederson had already pUlled away. Pederson enjoyed his Eddie Hicks leads Matiasevich (37) in a 125cc'Expert mota. Hicks won the first mota, but it was Thomson taking the final. lead for three lap , then he too went down in a deep-rutted corner, Emig came along as Peder on got going and stu((ed him to the oLUside of the next turn to retake the lead. Pederson d,idn't give up, though, and came charging back at Emig on the final lap, there was no stopping Emig, as he went on to win his fifth moto of the weekend and second overall victory. Pederson got his best finish of the event taking econd overall. Neal passed Goodman at midmoto to take third and the same overalL "I got lucky when he (Pederson) went down," said Emig afterwards. Allhough he won two classes, Emig was just a bit disappointed with the outcome. "I wanted to win every malO in all three classes'" • Results TEENY MINI: 1. Wlyne Richlrdoon (y.m); 2.
