built lrack where Herman won the 85cc A dass and the I25cc B class on Saturday. In Sunday's racing Steve Childress repeated his Saturday night performance by winning the 250cc B class. Tbe finals on aLUrday night and Sunday afternoon fi lied the arena to near capacity rowd. Saturday In the final of the 5cc A class Jon Pierre Leve que took his Kawasaki to the£rontof the pack with Herman in second followed by Mike McDonald, John Bogavich and Billy Lindsey. Herman powered his way to the lead on the second lap and held on to take the win over McDonald, Levesque, Billy Schalg and Bogavich. The 125cc ovice cia shad 90 entries, making it one of the largest classes of the weekend. Sean Ottaly took his Kawasaki to the lead in the final, with Robert Robicanud Jr. in second followed by Levesque, Kevin WadsworthandJim Fowler. Levesque moved into second on lap two and then began to reel in Ottaly. Levesque took over the lead through the whoops at the halfway point and led Ottaly the last five laps to the finish. Robicnaud held on for third ahead of Mark Ensor and Wadsworth. Team GreenlP J I-sponsored Childress powered his way to the front of the pack. in the 250cc B class and never looked back, 'laking a start to' finish win in Saturday's IO-lap feature. Dave Starr and orm Bish battled wheel-to-wheel for the entire moto with Starr taking second ahead of Bish, Sigmund and Blackman. The I25cc A final saw Troy Graham ~rab the hole hot ahead of Rodney Phillip, Robby Hayes, Steve Hess and Keith Johnson. Graham and Phillips battled every lap, but at the finisb it was still Graham in first followed by Phillips, Johnson, Hess and Joe Ellington. It was Graham again out front in the 250cc A <:lass feature with Phillips right on his back tire. It looked like a rematch of the I25cc final, but this time the finish was different. Phillips was able to get a wheel in front and take the lead wben Graham slid out on the third lap. Antonucci moved into second with Chuck Weinberg in third. Graham remounted in seventh, but was on the gas and moved through the pack. Phillips held on to take the win over Weinberg, Graham, Green and Brian Stanley. Sunday I The racers were up early on Sunday morning as racing started at 7 a.m. with the qualifiers for the afternoon's finals. Herman again topped the 85cc A riders for the second da yin a row. Rick Wetzel took second ahead of Levesque, Bogavicb and Ty Wallace. Team Green's Leve-que took 'Top Gun" honors for the second day in the very large '125 c 10vice class. Leve que led the fi na I from tart to finish takingan easy win over Robicnaud, Lee Hu[(man, orm Hardy and Mark Malone. Randy Gardner grabbed the early lead in the 250cc B lass final with Rick Bunting in second followed by Saturdav's winner Childress, Eddie Anewalt and Rick Snyder. Childress got by Bunting and took first on the third lap, but lost I he lead to Gardner on lap four. Gardner and Childress battled wheel-to-wheel before Childress regained the lead with two laps to go and held on for his second class victory. Gardner took second followed by Bunting. John Lewis and nyder. Brian Stanley took his Honda to the lead in the 125 c A class and led tbe first seven lap before Keith Johnson caught him on the final lap and took the win. Pico Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90064 By Terry Whytel (213) 477-0997 SUNNY MEAD, CA, FEB. 15 Yamaha rider Danny Bartholomew came from behind to win the SMX 250cc Pro class at DeAnza Cycle Park. Bartholomew's starts weren't up to par, but his persistent riding moved him past his competitiors and into a commanding lead in bom motos. Following in second was Honda pilot Todd Lehmann wbo had to fight off challenges from eventual third place finisher Chuck Whitmore on a Suzuki. Alan Coats used his year-old Yamaha to best the Intermediate class with lap times comparable to the Pros. Keeping the pressure on was Honda rider Paul Hauck witb Sun west Yamaha's James Morabito rounding out the top three. Yamaha-mounted Tim Hoole battled Kawasaki rider Greg Rogers for top Veteran bonors with Hoole riding a smootb controlJed pace to take tbe overall ahead of Rogers. Mike Otwell rode hi Suzuki to double motowins in the 125cc Novice class. Otwell moved to the front early in both motos and opened a safe lead to the checkered flag.
