By lap five, Wooten and Andris were out in front alone with Wooten buildingan eight-second lead over Andris. The appearance of the white flag caused Andris to get on the gas just a little harder and reduce Wooten's eight second lead to five, then four and then only two with haH a lap to go, but it was too little too late and • Wooten collected a double moLO win. With Andris finishing second, all eyes turned to third, where Green was fighting 0[£ a determined Ron Allen. It was Green's day, however, and he held on to take third by a one-second margin. Results Bob Shillinger was the overall winner at the Cherokee Hare Scrambles a round of the SE&TRA Championship Hare Scrambles Series. • Shillinger scalps Cherokee HS By Phyllis Apone GREEN COUNTY, GA, FEB. 1 H&H KTM-sponsored Bob Shillinger scored the overall victory in the Cherokee Hare Scrambles. Shillinger crossed the finish line with a five-minute lead over runner-up Kevin Hines, 'Vho is also a H&H KTM rider. It was the second straight win in the SE&TRA event for Shillinger. Round seven of the SE&TRA Championship Hare Scrambles Series start~d 0[[ with lOO-plus riders posting to battle 57 miles of open and tight logging trails. Honda-mounted Steve McSwain took the holeshot with Shillinger, Hines and H&H KTM owner Barry. Higgins in tow. McSwain led for the first four or five miles until Hines found his line and passed Shillinger and then McSwain to take over the point position. McSwain then got stuck in a mudhole and Shillinger found a way around the bog to take over second. . Hines was the fin;t rider to pass through the scoring barrels at the end of the first loop; but the New Englander had to make a quick pit stop to replace a lost bolt. Shillinger took advantage of Hines' stop to gas up, knowing that he wouldn't have to stop again with 39 miles left to run. ISDE rider Kevin Brown gassed on the second lap and was hot on the trail trying to catch Shillinger. Next into the pits for gas was Higgins and then Higgins and Hines headed out to play catch-up. Shillinger led the pack through the barrels on the start of lap two. Brown ca ugh t up to Shillinger and after applying a lot of pressure got by Shillinger. Brown started to pull away but then he ran out of gas. That unfortunate fact of racing gave Shillinger the green ligh t to the checkered flag. The overall win in the B ranks went to Carolina Wheels & Prop's Derrell Cox. Husqvarna-mounted Cox came through the scoring barrels at the end of lap two right on the two-hour mark which marked the end of the race for all B class riders. In the A class competitors had to drudge through another 19-mile loop. Results OVERAll: Bob Shilling..,. (KTM). AA: 1. Kevin Hines (KTM); 2. Bryen Adams (yem); 3. Buren Hemrid< (Han). OPEN A: 1. Wooten wails at Marysville MX By leo Trombley MARYSVILLE, CA, FEB. 8 Shawn Wooten and Kelly Adris hooked up together to provide two outstanding motos in the 250cc Pro class at the Marysville "E" Street track. The first 250cc Pro moto had 10 pros lined up for the drop ofthe gate. Wooten blasted his Honda to .the holeshot with Andris and Kawasaki rider Sean Conley right behind. Just behind them were Ron LaPoint and Jed Green, both on Yamahas. The pack came around into view with Wooten in the lead by five bike lengths over Andrisand Conley. Andris began closing on Wooten during the second lap. The two hit the levee jump together, but Wooten out muscled him at the 90 degree left hander and stayed in front. Honda-mounted Andris continued to press and edged out a pass at a small drop-orr. Lap three saw Andris in front with Wooten fighting to pass. Andris continued to block until he slipped out of the berm sand section of the course. He bogged down, losing. all of his momentum. Wooten seized theopportunity and shot by to regain the lead. Andris got back on track and closed to within two seconds of the leader, leaving LaPointe to battle with Green over third place. With the drop of the white £lag, Andris was within two bike lengths of Wooten but there was no way Wooten was going to allow another pass and he held on for the win. Green used the last half of the last lap to capture third. . In moLO two, Green pulled the holeshot but by the time the riders came back inlO view, it was the Wooten-Andris show all over again. Green had dropped all the way back to sixth. Wooten, with Andris wired to his rear fender, began building a MINI 60 BEG: 1. Casey Johnson (Kaw); 2. Jasen Hamson (Kawl; 3. Clay Kuglar (Han).
