Rex Staten continues to dominate the Vet Expert class. Staten easily topped both motos, while Ken Zahrt placed second. Rob Andrews 16Alleads Willy Simons in the 500Cc Pro division. Simons wound up finishing third overall, while Andrews took fourth. ~and turn and wem down. By the tIme both riders recovered they were in last and next to last places. When the leaders wem down, Ward took over the Lead with Smith and Doug Fellers rounding out the LOp three at the end of lap two. Surrau had neued another bad start in this moLO and was sixth on lap one, but by lap three, he was challenging Smith for the runner-up spot. Surrau wasted no time with Smith, in the from section o[rockers, urratt Leaped past Sm ith and assu med second place. Surratt quickly reeled in Ward, and by the end of lap [our, Surratt had stuffed his way past Ward and was in the lead for good. With Surratt controlling the lead there was a four-way battle for second place between Ward, mith, Fellers and Davis. Smith managed LO fight off the advances of Ward until lap 10 when Ward and Davis snuck by a fading Smith. Ward tried LO reel in Surrau's six- econd lead and did manage LO close in on the last lap, but Surrau still took an easy win. Ward, Davi , Fellers and Smith rounded out the top five. Myerscough rocketed off the line in the first 500cc moLO and LOok an immediate lead. Rob Andrews guided his Honda into second ahead of Fisher, and Dan Newell. By the second lap Myerscough had a mall cushion out front. Fisher had fought his way past Andrews and a hard-charging Mike Larson also jammed past Andrews for third. Fisher was able to zero in on Myerscough near the end of lap four but wa n'tabletomountachallengethat got him any closer than within three bike lengths of Myer cough. Myerscough continued LO lead all the way LO the checkers; Fisher LOok a safe second.' Larson had problems and that allowed Willy Simons. and Andrews to move into third and fourth places. Simons and Andrews had the best battle of the moto for the third place spot. Both riders traded places several times in the last four laps of the race. In the final corner Andrews was able to barely hold off Simons to take third place honors. The start of the second 500cc moLO w Simons shoot into the lead as the pack rounded turn one. Myerscough was right on Simons' rear fender for the entireIirst lap and forced his way by on lap two at the bottom of the uphill section. Myerscough was on the gas on lap three and was able LO start pulling away from Simons, Larson and a distant Fisher in fourth. Myerscough seemed LO have no trouble putting some distance on Simons who had his hands full with Larson. La.r..son wa able to jarp his way past Simons on lap three and was trying to reel in Myerscough's foursecond lead, but Larson ended up trying too hard and overshot a berm after the tableLOp. Larson's bobble cost him three places, dropping him lO futh. Myerscough put it on cruise control and was way out front by lap eight, holding a 10-second cushion on Simons, Fisher and Andrews. Fisher finally caught up to Simons on lap nine, and on lap 10, he really began to attack Simons' second place position. Fisher made his way by Simons on the back section of the track. Myerscough was able to cruise through the last three laps of the race and was over 16 seconds ahead of Fisher as they started the white flag lap. Myerscough took his second molO win of the day and the overall win. Fisher's 2-2 tally was good enough for second overall, Simons was third in the molO and third overan. Myerscough said, "I felt really good today, everything JUSt worked out really well. I felt confident and loose on the bike. I don't really have a chance for the series win, but I try lo win every race. I want lo thank my par=ts and my mechanic Bill Chapin, because without their support I couldn't race." In the 125cc class Rick Ryan snagged the holeshot in the first moLO b'dt had Bob Moore, Mike Kiedrowski and Mike Healey packed in right behind him. Healey got off the track just before the tabletop and dropped back a few po~itions bu twas back on the gas quickly and began moving back up. Ryan continued lo lead into lap two, but was being heavily pressured by Moore for the lead. On lap three Moore's pressure on Ryan paid off as he got by Ryan and left him to fight off a rapidly closing Healey. Moore held a steady pace out front but couldn't put any distance on Ryan and Healey, who were swapping the, runner-up spot. Lap four saw Healey make his way by Ryan for good and start lo close in on Moore. Moore kept Healey at bay for the next three laps with Ryan, Kiedrowski and Dubach, who had fought his way into the top five after a lousy start, in lOW. Moore went on for the-viclOry, but Dubach had, by·the end of the molO, leapt past Kiedrowski and Ryan. Healey's hard ride ended up all for nothing, as he was caught jumping the gate at the start and was penalized a lap, dropping him from second lo 17th place. Davis was out front as the pack entered turn two in the second 125cc molO with David Graff, Ryan, Moore and Dubach rounding out the top fift. . The fi ve front runners held their positiqns until lap four when Ryan and Moore started lo put together a run towards the front. Ryan and Moore both passed Graff and started lo reel in Davis on lap five. Ryan and pavis ran side-by-side as they raced lOwards the tablelOp, Ryan grabbed the hot lin'e in the lefthander after the jump and took the lead. Moore wasted no time getting by Davis also, passing him before the end of lap five. On lap even Scott Underwood wem down hard at the ba e of the tabletop, and when the leader entered this section of the course, everal spectators were on the track urging the riders to slow down for the fallen rider. Moore used the confusion to his advantage and passed Ryan in the left hander following the jump. . Moore led going into lap eight with Ryan still a close second and Dubach third. Ryan dropped out soon after that when his Honda' sheared off its countershaft sprocket. Dubach was now into second with Healey third. Moore led until lap II when he went down on the back section of the track, handing the lead lo Dubach. Healey was putting together a charge to catch the leader, and by lap 13, he .was right on Dubach's tail. As Dubach and Healey began lap 14, they had a small pack of lapped riders in front of them. Dubach was able to use the lappers to put a little distance between himself and flea ley early in the last lap, but as the lap drew LO a close, Healey was again glued lo Dubach's fender. Mealey was shadowing Dubach through the rocker .. and as they entered the Last turn, Dubach was able LO force Healey to the far outside and squeaked out the win by less than a bike length. Dubach's 2-1 score netted him the overall win; Kiedrowski posted a 3-3 tall y for second overall and Moore took third overall with a 1-10 core. Dubach was overjoyed with hi first Golden State win this year, "I feel great, I finally won one! Basically I've had some small problems in the series, but I knew I had ~he potentiallO win one. It really pumps me lo finally win. I want lo thank Paul Thede at Race Tech; the bike's really coming together. ''I'm leading the series now going into the last round, and with some luck, I should be able lo win it. Hopefuny that will help me get something going so I can ride the 250cc Nationals and theSupercross series." • Results 125 PRO: 1. Doug Dubach (Cag); 2. Mike Kiedrowski (Kaw); 3. Bob Moore (Han); 4.
