CMC/Dodge Trucks Golden StCde Nationals: Round 6 . - Dubach snakes win at Sunrise By Mike Larson Photos by Nate Rauba ADELANTO, CA., FEB. 15 Doug Dubach turned in two hard-charging, come-from'-behind rides in the 125cc ro class Sunday at Sunrise Valley Cycle ark, giving Cagiva its second straight Golden 8 State National Series victory in that class. Brian Myerscough got back .. . on the w1On1Og track 10 the 500cc Pro class, turning in a perfect 1-1 score for the class victory. Series point leader Mike Fisher took second behind Mye:scou.gh in both motos to hold onto hiS senes pomt lead. Suzuki's Willie Surratt picked up his second 250cc Pro class win in a Buddy Antunez (B76) and Jimmy Gaddis traded moto wins in the Mini Expert class. Antunez took overall. via his second-moto win. - row. Surratt bounced back from a bad start in moto one to record a third place finish then won the second moto after playing catch up from another bad start. In the day's other races, Rex Staten ran off another carbon copy of his performance in the last five rounds of the series, winning both motos of the Vet Pro class ahead of Ken Zahrt. [n the Mini Expert class Buddy Antunez turned in a 2-1 performance to edge out fellow Suzuki rider Jimmy Gaddis' 1-2 tally for the overall win. Unlike the first round of the series held at Sunrise six weeks ago, this race was rain-free, but a stiff wind kicked up a large amount of dust for most of the day. West German Collin Dugmore jetted off the line in the firsl250cc.Pro moLO and rounded turn one ahead of (he field. Dugmore was closely pursued by Rodney Smith and John Ray. Surratt was off to a slow stan and was near the end of the pack. By the time the leaders entered the back section of the track, Smith was able LO get by Dugmore and take over the lead. On lap two, Smith and Dugmore had pulled away slightly from Ray and they continued LO hold a comfortable cushion until lap four. On lap five Ty Davis worked his way past Ray and was able to close on the leaders slightly. A charging Surrall had sliced his way through the p.ack and was up to fifth place on lap SIX. Lap seven saw Dugmore began LO challenge Smith for the lead, pulling alongside Smith as they entered the back section of the course. At the stan of lap eight, Dugmore forced his way by Smith in the first turn area and took over the LOp spot. Dugmore controlled the rest of the moLO and was never challenged after he passed Smith. Smith was able LO cruise home in a secure second place. Davis was holding onto third until lap II when Surratt launched past and took over third place, which he held to the finish. Ray grabbed the holeshot in the second 250cc moLO with Dugmore, Gordon Ward and Smith close behind.
