The second place spot wa then inherited by the Honda of Rodney Jensen with Pursley losing in on him. Coming up in fonh on a 500cc KTM was Darryl Johnson, behind him Ron Kellman on a Yamaha YZ 490 had worked his way up from last into the fifth place lot, which he heJddown until a fadingclutch dropped him ba k in the pack. Back at the front DeLangcontinued to stretch his lead on the second place rider Pur ley and in third, Mitch Burnell, which is the way they finished, Beginner 250cc a tion had Len elJers coming out of the fourth place in the first turn to take an early lead with Honda-mounted Nick Civello and Joe Buckner rounding out the tOP positions. On lap three Rodney Jen en had worked his way up through the masses to challenge Seller only to disappear on the following lap, At the checkered flag first place honors went to Rich Choviward who had slipped by the leaders unnoticed, with Joe Buckner and Len Sellers capturing the LOp three positions. In 125cc Beginner action Hi-Desen Kawasaki's Warren Wilson took an early lead which he also lost to Honda-munted Mike Cosaert with Bob McDaniel capturing second. Third place honors went to Saddleback Suzuki's Shawn McElvogue on a 1984 RM125. In the Womens Race Novice Tina Zahrt's Honda was the first bike into tum one with FMF-sponsored Lori Hedstrom right behind, in third was Terry Cable's Kathy Jo Ehrp. Suffering from a poor stan was the number one plate holder in the Women's division Kawasaki-mounted Mindy Smith. Hedstrom picked 0(( Zahn coming down the hill and soon after Ehrp got by Zahn also, Hedstrom opened up a large lead and by lap three the other Novice Women were far behind, However Smith had charged past both Zahrt and Ehrp and had set her sights on Hedstrom's Yamaha YZ250, Hedstrom was working her way through slower traffic when a rider changed lines right in front of her causing Hedstrom to go down. Smith caught Hedstrom with her bike down and took over the lead for good, Ehrp .closed the gap between herself and Hedstrom down to eight seconds, but could not get any closer and the race ended with Smith gettin~ the overall, Hedstrom was first NOVice followed by Ehrp and Zahrt, Results 60 0-8: 1. Hicks smokes PerrisMX By Terry Whytal PERRIS, CA, JAN. 10 Honda support rider Jeff Hicks completely dominated Pro action today, at Perris Raceway_ II all began with the drop of the gate in the first mow when Hicks blasted into the early lead ahead of Honda riders Luc DeLey and Mark Brooks, While Hicks ran away and hid, DeLey and Brooks battled fiercely over second place, and when the checkered dropped, it was Hicks way out in front, followed by DeLey, who just edged out Brooks. Once again, Hicks dominated the second round of racing, while DeLey and Brooks argued over second place. But like the first mow, there was no stopping Hicks who charged to his second win in a row, DeLey held off Brooks for second overall. Probably the most exciting racing of the day took place in the l25cc
