Smith shared some of his personal experiences encountered during the heat of competition that kept the attention of all and had many holding their sides in laughter. He also educated the audience to the £act that, althougb they might think he spoke with an accent, he spoke "perfe€t English." Husqvarna's newly crowned Na.tional Hare Scrambles Champion Mark Hyde was also on hand. Hyde stressed the relationship between a state series and a national series in helping a rider to develop riding skills. He also acknow ledged the important role that the pit crew plays in a rider's success. After the banquet. both stayed on hand for hours after the banquet until the last question wa asked and the last autograph was signed. He took home first pIa e honors, while in the Big Boy Mini class Brian Alexander beat out John Killian for the top spot. AAMRRhosts annual banquet By Joe McKay WEST PALM BEACH, FL, JAN. to VCHSShare scrambles banquet By Rider Writer WILLIAMSBURG, VA, JAN. 10 The 1986 Virginia Championship Hare Scrambles Series came to a formal close with a candlelight dinner at the Fort Magruder Inn and Conference Center. The house was packed as riders from three states attended. The evening topped a season that saw 14 races 'at II different tracks situated from the rocky mountains in the west to the tightly wooded Oatlands in the east. After John Baird gave the- invocation and the stylish buffet dinner had been served, the lights were lowered and the meat of the evening began. Series President Rick Pino greeted the riders and their families and expressed his appreciation for the support they had gjven the series. After introducing each race promoter, Pino introduced several s'pecial guests including RockylTucker representative Tom Bartlett, Texaco Marketing & Refining representative Gary Hatch and Malcolm Smith representative Debbie Bartlett. Series Coordinator George Greer acted as the Master of Ceremonies and gave a historical review of the The American Association of Motorcycle Road Racers representing the southeastern region, got together to honor their champions tonight. This was the last get together for AAMRR. The organi2ation has closed its doors because of the high cost of insurance they have to pay per event. Steve Ross the president of the organization came down from Connecuticut to give a speech and personaJIy thank everyone for the support given him and promoter Henry DeCouw in the past three years. Roger Edmondson of the AMA followed up with a speech welcoming everyone to the Championship Cup Series, which will fill the void left by the departing AAMRR. Henry DeGouw presented the awards right after dinner starting oU with "Team Miami Vice" getting the Endurance Overall Champion hip and Class One honors. Steve Telder and Thomas Stevens won four of the six races at Moroso. Telder and Stevens are taking winning combinations on the road this year and running in National endur.mce races. Rick Miller won the Production . Two Championship with the highest amount of points scored by any other sprint riders. Greg Esser captured the Formual Two honors and had the second highest points accrued. Rick Shaw grabbed the Formula
