A pack of 250cc class riders jam their way off the line and into turn one at Woodland, Washington's motocross. two followed by Chase. Bonds, Knight, Monroe and Foster. Everyone ran close for three laps and then Chase slipped past Monegan once again. From .there on there was no changes in position. Both brothers are sponsored by Young Cycle Supply, Scott and PjI. Ideal weather conditions and a per· fc;ct track greeted the large 125cc Novice field as Chip Young took the holeshot in moto one. Kelly Melton, jeff Peterson, and jeff Rogers fol· lowed in tow. Young quickly pulled out a six-second lead on lap two and held it as he cruised to the first moto \tictory. Meanwhile, Rogers disposed ofsecond place Melton while Peterson dropped back to sixth on lap three. By lap four, the running order was Young, Rogers, Todd Koehnke, Mel· ton and Charley Lakin. Dean Farrell came on strong after a poor start and sliced through. traffic to run as high as third, but DNF. Rogers and Koehnke battled until the checkered flag. Rogers took second with Koehnke getting a well deserved third. Farrell sorted out his bike and he holeshot moto two and pulled away from Chip Young. Farrell had an eight second lead on Young by lap two and eventually took the moto win.. Behind Young, Peterson and Alan Holcomb waged war. Melton took advantage of the bailie to slip past Holcomb for third. The finishing order was Farrell, Young, Melton, Holcomb and Peterson. . The 80cc action saw Amateurs Bryan Lewallen and Aarron Stewart go at it. Lewallen got the holeshot in moto one, but a mistake allowed Stewart to get by. Lewallen tried a little too hard to catch the fleeing Suzuki rider and fell. Stewart took the win while Lewallen was able to remount and finish in second. Lewallen holeshot inoto two, but Stewart was past by lap three and went on to the victory in spite of Lewallen's charge. Ivan Vesely was the man to beat in the Mini Beginner class and ran away' with the win in both motos over jimmy Mokry. Mall Martell took easy wins in the Mini Novice class. The IO-Iap Expert Sweepstakes had fans on their feet as Robert Naughton took his Honda to the first moto win ahead of David McDermoll, Chappy Blose and Bobby White. White was on the gas and reeled in Blose then McDermoll, but Drey Dircks was right on his tail and passed White for second place on lap seven. Dircks had his sights set on Naughton, he cut the Honda rider's lead from nine to four seconds in three laps. At the finish line Naughton triumphed; Dircks was second with White taking third. The second moto holeshot went to . White with Naughton in tow. Dircks got tangled up in a first tum crash and badly twisted his foot. Naughton was all over White's rear fender. On·; lap two Naughton tried to dive past White in a left hand turn, but his' front wheel broke through the berm . and he lost a position to McDermott.. White cruised to victory, but McDermott was not giving up. Naughton was past McDermoll on lap six, but McDermott hung close. In faq, McDermott nearly passed Naughton over the finish line jump.
