two heats with motocross scoring.
Gunn handily won the first heat and
held of[ the determined second heat
charge of Deiter Lane.
Heat one saw Gunn, Kelly Byrd
and Lane battling for the top spots.
Terrence O'Brien, Dale Kieffer and
Rick Williams rounded out the top
six. Tom Dahl was running up front
until a seized cylinder on his Yamaha
TZ-250 knocked him out of contention. Mike Ross crashed on lap five
while running in seventh place. Brian
Joder was also running up front
until his throttle stuck wide open in
turn three. Joder's Suzuki was completely destroyed and he suffered a
broken collarbone.
Williams and Kieffer battled back
and forth until late in the first heat
when Williams' Kawasaki 600 Ninja
coasted to a stop out of gas. Byrd ran
well until the closing laps when a
back marker tagged him and sent
Byrd to the-pits. Gunn finished the
heat in first ahead of Lane, O'Brien
and Kieffer.
Gunn and Lane continued to battle throughout heat two. Gunn's big
Suzuki pulled out an eight-second advantage, but Lane low-sided in turn
10 and DNF. Byrd was back up front
on Lance Baker's Honda VFR750,
but was knocked off for a second time
injuring the toes on his right foot.
Tim Bergstrom tried a daring pass on
Williams in turn three that almost
worked. Both riders went down at a
high speed. Bergstrom managed to
restart but Williams' beautiful Kawasaki was on the trailer for good.
Gunn collected the second heat win,
the overall win and the prize money.
The Superstreet B win went to
O'Brien. Kieffer took Superstreet C

crew worked late Saturday night to
sort things out, but several class po~i
tions were still unresolved at press
time.
