Hall reached the checkers first in both rounds with Nick Nabors a close second and David Metz settling for third. In the final Championship event, the 250cc Stock CZ, il was John Pavich earning the World title to make it a clean sweep. Pavich won both motos ahead of Robert Wethern who finished second overall. Jim lach just edged David Vinson to score third. Paul Iwanaga came to the final round of the High Points Short Track Series at the 10nterey County Fairgrounds, today, to an overwhelming win in the 1986 CZ World Championship Open Modified class. Johnson took the lead early in each moto of the SMX-sanctioned annual event hosted by Rick Nabors and the Southern California CZ Club, and was never headed in his race to the checkers. Giving chase from the number two slot was eventual second· overall finisher Steve Bebeck who was able to just edge a charging Scott Hendrickson for the position. Phil Hall placed fourth as Lee Holth rounded out the top five. Jimmy Palmer won a tough Open Stock CZ batlle, out·pointing his rivals with a 2-1 score. His hope·s soon turned to a reality after accom lishing both feats. At the start of the 10-lap 500cc Expert final (after two false starts), Iwanaga gated perfectly and had the lead going into the first 'tUrn. He was closely chased by Steven Raymond (Can-Am), while Jon Nunez worked his way up to challenge botl) riders. During the fourth lap, Nunez shot his Can·Am past Raymond and set after the leader Iwanaga. However, Nunez couldn't gain any distance on Iwanaga, who saluted the crowd with. a celebration wheelie as he crossed • the checkered flag. The win gave Iwanaga the overall class series cham· pionship_ In the SOOcc Junior class, Joe Car· rera clinched the High Point Series Class Championship on his Suzuki. The final race saw Carrera take early advantage while Cory Perrault and his TT Yamaha chased. Perrault
