Semics snags Glen Helen MX win By Mike Larson SAN BERNARDINO, CA, NOV. 16 Toda·y's CRC MX at" Glen Helen featured an intense battle between former factory pilots Gary Semics and Kenny Zahrt. Semics picked up wins in both moLOS of the 250cc Pro class, but had to fighL 0(( a number of challenges from Zahrt. Semics grabbed me holeshot in the first 250cc Pro moLO, closely pursued by Zahrt. In the first three laps of the 12-lap moto Zahrt was within two bike lengLhs of Semics, but near the midpoint of the race Semics had put a little distance on Zahrt. On lap seven Semics approached a pack of lapped traffic and Zahrt was able Lo reel in the leader. ,Zahn turned up the pressure on Semics for a couple of laps, but as both riders encountered more lapped traffic late in the race Semics used the lappers to stretch out his lead over Zahn. Semics maintained hislead to score the victory, Zahrt was second ·and Joe Engel was a 'distant . third. In the second moto Zahrt scorched off Lhe line and jammed into turn one with the lead, with Semics right on his rear fender. By lap two Zahrt had built up a small cushion on Semics, b\,lt Zahrt's lead was short-lived. On lap wee Semics blazed around Zahrt on the upper section of the course and took over the lead. Zahrt wasn't giving up though, he was glued to Semics' rear wheel and diced wheelLO-wheel with Semics several times on lap five. The leaders moved into lapped traffic just past the half way mark of the moto. Semics was able to slice through the slower riders with ease, but Zahrt got hung up momentarily in traffic and' lost ground to Semics, Zahrt gOL aggressi ve late in me moto and began charging through traffic, whittling down Semics' lead from five seconds to Lhree, but it was never any closer than that. Semics took the win with Zahrt and EQgel rounding out the top three positiol1s. In the 250cc Novice class Mitch Brewer dominated both mOlOS. Brewer grabbed the holeshot in each race then steadily pulled away to nail down the win. In the l25cc Beginner class Danny Fonteyn won both motos and scored Lhe overa]l win.
