Vohland, Cahors score at Marysville MX By Leo Trombley MARYSVILLE, CA, NOV. 9 Twelve 250cc Pro and two Open Pro riders lined up for a combined gate that saw 250cc Pro Tyson Vohland and Brett Cahors scrap it out for the checkered flag in both motos, during CMC Motocross at the E Street MX. In mow one, KX rider Vohland grabbed a holeshot but lost the lead to Open Pro Joey Schlag, also on a green machine. Schlag led with Vohland and Cahors right behind until he crashed on the second lap. That gave Vohland the front runner position with Cahors in second. Once he gained the lead, he began stretching it out leaving Cahors behind. Cahors . worked the course from every angle, but was unable to make up the distance and Vohland cruised to the win. Mow two saw Vohland tangle with another rider in the first tum allowing Honda-mounted Cahors to take the from and bui Id up a sizea ble lead. Vohland just cranked on the throttle harder and literally flew across the sandy track, catching Cabors on the fifth lap. He slid past and never' looked back, notching out double moto wins and the top money. Cabors finished second for the day and Lance Borgess was third. Stacy Smith, on his [jrst ride in the 250cc Junior class, grabbed the holeshot with Howard Gordon right on Smith's silencer. As they disappeared down the short chute toward the river, the second gate dropped for the 250cc Beginner class_ They survived the first turn and then hi t the [jrst drop off where a serious crash occurred, causing the red flag to come out. The restart had Smith and Gordon dicing it out for first again, but "BroShow" hit the big berm turns and started to leave Gordon in the dust. By the second lap Smith had a commanding lead and had an easy ride to the flag. Gordon also had a huge lead on third place and breezed to a second place. The second moto looked like a repeat of the first wi...h Smith and Gordon going at it again. Gordon holed it and kept the lead for the [jrst lap. As they approached the levee jump, Smith took an inside line, grabbed a lot of air and came down in first place. Gordon wasn't going to give up so easily and continued to press. The tactic worked and on lap three Smith dumped it in a turn. Gordon passed, as did third place rider Tim Nobles. By the time Smith got up and running he h.ad dropped back to a distant fourth. Gordon hit the line first giving him first overall on the day. Honda rider Tim Nobles took second and with a 5-2, second for the afternoon. Smith finished out his first 250cc race with a third.
