Pro 250cc winner Kenny Zhart sails off a jump at LA County Raceway. McRoberts bags LA County MX win By Terry Rezek PALMDALE, CA, NOV. 9 CRC held its Granada Yamaha 2000 motocross at LA County Raceway today, minus the Women, who were all at the Women's National That just left more money and contingencies for the men. The l25cc Beginners led off the assault on the prizes with a pair of come-from-behind wins by Josh McRoberts. McRoberts got off the line in fifth in mow one and third in mow two, but used steady, aggressive riding to earn the overall. Chris Murphy slaTted ahead of McRoberts in both mows, but couldn't hold him back and had lo seule for a pair of seconds for second I 25cc Beginner. The l25cc Novice race was holly contested by three Antelope Valley riders. Erich Broesel was too quick off the line in mow one and overshot turn one and wound up in midpack. Mike Crosby and Tony Qualls came around on the first lap in spots one and two. Broesel began a fierce recovery ride and was right behind Qualls at the start of the last lap. Broesel got by Qualls and camped on Crosby's back fender looking for an opening. With less than half a lap to go, Broesel drove hard on the outside of a tight turn and passed Crosby. The momentum of the pas carried Broesel to the outside of a jump immediately following the turn. Broesel crossed the finish line in the lead, but under the rules, he had cut the course and was penalized one lap. Crosby thus took first, with Qualls finishing second. Apparently this decision was not yet known when they started the second moto. Broesel got a good stan and led the entire race, crossing the finish line thinking he had won the event. Qualls had dogged Broesel all the way in mow two, but could not find an opening lo pass and finished second. Those two seconds were good enough for the overall l25cc Novice win as the first mow penalty dropped Broesel to sixth overall. Crosby hada bit of trouble late in the second mow and finally finished fourth, giving him second overall. Paul Vlach turned in a stellar performance in the 125cc Intermediate race, leading both mows from gate-tocheckered flag for the overall victory.
