In the first moto it was Conley stretching out a favorable lead over Gary Rabe and his Rock OillMoore & Sons KTM/Fox Racing-sponsored KTM. Running a close third was Darren Gallagher on a Kawasaki sponsored by Walnut Creek Ferrari, AXO, FMF, Dan Agostino Racing, Remhal, The Knobby Shop and Pro Cycle. Gallagher has for several weeks allowed those in from of him to enjoy their lead for several laps before he makes a move to close an'd then pass. Rabe was the first to surrender to Gallagher's first moLO charge and there were two laps LO go to the checkers. On the last lap and in the fast pan of the course Gallagher came abreast of Conley. They made the nexHo-last turn headed for the flag and Gallagher made his pass. By using all of the final corner there was no place for Conley to go except up very high inLO the deep berm. The dash to the [lag also included negotiating the dif(jcul~ tuller jumps. By Gallagher having'! better line and the momentum he'~tthere first. In the second maLO the Slan was nearly a photocopy of the first maLO, -but that was where the similiarity ended. Rabe seemed detuncd and finished a poor third. The battle that everyone expected, a late ra e charge to the from and attempt LO pass by 'Gallagher, did Slan but it did not finish tbe way it had in the fir tmoto. Conley opened sucb a lead that the effon of Gallagher was a lillie short when the checkers came out. Conlcy and probably others now are walchful of the tactic that had been successful for young Gallagher.
