Brownell hot at WendoverRR By Bill Peters WENDOVER, UT, ocr. 12 The Utah Sport Bjke Association held its final road race of the '86 season at the Wendover Airfield and participants were greeted with excellent weather. MRA racer Bob Brownell on a Boulder Motorsporls/Geo(( Cesmat/ Vetter/JT Racing-backed Kawasaki GPz550 pulled the holeshot at the start of the 600cc race. Tad Goimarac of Cycles and Sleds Racing was secod through the first turn. Goimarac held onlO second for five laps before being passed by USBA point leader Scott Christensen on a Cycle Inn Yamaha RZ350. Christensen then set his sights on Brownell, who by this time was well out in front of the field. With about four laps remaining, Christensen caught Brownell and t.he final laps turned into an exciting duel between the two experienced racers. The lead changed hands no less than three times, but it all came down to lhe final turn where Christensen went wide and Brownell slipped undernetah to go on and take the checkered flag. Goimarac finished third overall behind Brownell and Christensen, and first in the Novice division. Brownell added the Dinosaur race victory to' his day's achievements. Christensen also came up with two wins, topping the Open Advanced class and the one-hour Mini Endurance race. Novice racer Brad MaIm, sponsored by Barnes Boots and Tooele Valley Suzuki, also logged two wins. Maim was lOp Novice in the Open class race and in the endurance race. George Richtmeyer and Duane Veeter were tied, with Craig Estelle a mere four points back, and the victor would be assured of the championship. . With all riders packed tight 0(( the green light, Richtmeyer and Estelle hit the second corner din, bringing out the red flag. On the restart Richtmeyer took the lead exiting the fourth turn and immediately "dined a sizl'abk advantage over Estelle who was back behind Tony Anderson and Kenny Dahlin. Holding tight on the corners Estelle went under Dahlin on lap two and then passed Anderson for second on the founh circuit.
