Stout, the winner of the first event last year as well as another in Irving this year, posted a winning time of I;24.22 over the difficult rainswept, snake-like course through pylon cones. Thirty of Texas' finest motorcycle officers negotiated the courSe for a three-heat average during six hours of constant light rain on the brand new slick asphalt parking lot of Sikes Center Mall. A large group of Oklahoma patrolmen was notably "bsent due to severe flooding in their state. The start of the course was titled L.A. Pullout, a sharp 180" turn to enter a flat 90" between narrow cones; then the Slow Cone Weave or zig-zag with a drag race to obstacle number three, shaped like a cross class the Intersection - the officer enters the cross, makes three tight 1800 turns and exits the same point of entry. Next,- the snake-like Offset Colle Weave and another drag race to the Double 1160" Trap; a serpentine curve and the final run to the Boardwalk ride over a very slick 2O-foot two-inch by eight-inch board to the f·inish. Points were added in seconds each time a foot touched the ground, each time a cone was touched or turned over and 25 points added for not completing a section. There were more than a few bruised safety guards and scallered cones on the rain slick surface. Active police rider experience varied from less than six months to more than six years; even the slower riders pe.rformed on their full dress bikes with skill that would ~ake some experienced trails riders envious. First-moLO action in the 250cc class saw Honda-mounted Dennis Daft nabbing the holeshot and leading for two laps. Daft slowed over a series of double jumps allowing Stephenson to capture the lead and mOLOr on to a safe win with Daft trailing for second. A battle for third saw Yamahariders Wisperin Smith and Rick Kirk fight with Honda-moumed Steve Bayles, with Bayles getting the edge at the flag; Smith look fourth and Kirk finished fifth. The second moto saw Stephenson holeshot with Smith, Daft, and Bayles in LOW. Bayles quickly moved past Daft, but while attempting to pass Smith. a midair collision resulted in Bayles going through the banners and Smith barely recovering for second. Daft reeled in Smith and shadowed him the entire moto, but was unable to overtake him. Stephenson motored to another Dawless moLO Will. Results Action in the 250cc Novice moras provided some of the most exciting action of the day. Whoops and dou_ ~Ie jump sections crea ted I rouble for tfie riders and non-stop action for spectators. Yamaha's Mike Dye conquered the doubles, giving him a commanding Jead in both moLOS LO win the overall. Jack Delay and Truitt Rogers battled for second and third place honors, with Yamaha-mounted Ronnie Cue riding in his first-ever MX race and finishing fourth overall. Yuros doubles S.I.R. GOldStarMX By Jay Marcell KENT, WA, ocr. 12 Trevor Yuros'did a double take, today, at the final round of the Seattle International Raceway Gold Star MX Series. Yuros pocketed the dough in both the 125 and 250cc Pro classes. In the 125cc Pro race, Yamaha rider Scott Steffy grabbed the holeshot over Yuros, Scott Grimm, David Bailey and Sean Galbraith. At the halfway point, Grimm began to fade back from Yuros, who started pressuring the leader Steffy. A few laps later, Yuros snuck by Steffy taking over the lead and eventual win. Round two went a little easier for Yuros. After grabbing the holeshot. Yuros lead the pack throughout the moLO, despite heavy-duty pressuring by Steffy. However, Steffy couldn't find the hot line and had to settle for second behind winner Yuros. In the 250cc Expert class, Danny Bullock nailed the holeshot ahead of Chris Moritz, Ruben Springman and Lance Smail. Moritz took over the lead while Smail moved into second. Smail chased Moritz for the next couple of laps before slipping into the lead. But Smail's lead didn't last long when the rear shock on his Kawasaki blew. Working his way up through the pack, Honda rider Brent Battin found his way into second and then the lead after Smail dropped out. Springman took second followed by Bob Nietfield, Moritz and Bullock. The start of the second moLO saw Smail grab the holeshot ahea<:I of Mike Huber, Nietfield, Bullock and John Hodges. Smail pulled out to a commanding lead over Nietfield. At the finish, it was Smail taking the win over Nietfield, Bullock and Huber. Neitfield wound up with the overall ahead of Springman and Bullock. Results PEE WEE: 1. Tory Howard (Vam): 2. Honda-mourned Upshaw again beat an extremely talented field to take the overaJl win, his fourth in the last five weeks. Dennis Hawthorne, the only one to beat Upshaw recently tried to outhorsepower everyone on a 500cc Kawasaki but had to settle for second overall. Hawthorne seemed vinuaJly unbeatable at Ross Downs last season but he has finished second LO Upshaw in three of their last four meetings. Oklahoma City's Clay Hoenshell never makes the long trip without his presence being felt. Hoenshell stalked Hawthorne and passed him on the last lap, to win the first moto. Clay could never get closer than third in the second moto and finished third overall. Despite his pre-race confidence. Upshaw found himself on-me-spot
