David Smith lOpped the Four-Stroke class with this score as well. Two B class riders won their classes with a 26 point score. Mann mauls Gatorback MX By Athie Sanders GAINESVILLE, FL, ocr. 19 Bobby Mann nailed doublemoto wins to claim the overall victory in the I25ec Bclass during round six of the World 26 Sports-promoted Florida Gold Cup Series at Gatorback Cycle Park. Mann won the first moto of the 250cc B class, and was charging to take the lead in molO two, when he fell before the second tum and substained injur. ies. The race was red-nagged. PJI/Barr Competition/Hi-Point Racing/Scoll Goggles-sponsored Mann was out front when the I 25cc B class came off the line until Marcus Pedrero cut around 10 snatch the lead. The two left the pack in their wake as they pulloo away, fighting over the front position and Mann slipped ahead before the end of lap one. Pedrero pushed hard to regain the lead, but he went down, coming back into the race in sixth place. Rob Hanson, riding a distant but comfortable second, followed Mann across the finish line with Dean Baker, Pedrero, and Todd Gardner rounding out the top five. Pedrero holeshot moto two, but Mann wasted no time moving into the lead, and by the end of the first lap Hanson also got by Pedrero. The action centered around the battle over second plaCe. Pedrero regained the position and then followed Mann across the finish line. Hanson, Danny Zullo and Charles Sybert followed. Steve Young relinquished the lead of the first250cc B class moto to Rodney Orr, but Orr soon found Mann knocking on his rear fender. Mann took the lead and cruised just far enough ahead of Orr to keep the pressure off. Keith English, Ttm Denardis and Lonnie Tucker followed Mann, then Orr, across the finish.line in that order. English held an early lead in the second molO, but Mann had gone down just after the first turn. Dust enci rcled Mann and several riders did not see him until they were roosting over him. The race was red nagged. Mann had taken a beating, but he refused the aid of the medic. His condition was uncertain at the conclusion of the race, but it was assumed he had a'broken collar bone. Surles shines Daniel Boone Enduro By Brian and Ann Palormo PRINCETON, KY,-Ocr, 12 Neimer wind nor rain nor soggy mud could stall Larry Surles in his quest for overall honors at the 18th running of me Daniel Boone Enduro' in Princeton_ Surles rode a 250 Husqvarna over the 79.6 mile course, dropping just 22 points and leading a pack of 80 persevering riders to the finish line. Weather was less than favorable as a heavy downpourofrain began just as the 9:01 key time hit the flip charts, continuing most of the day. In spite of the weather obstacles, nearly 150 riders set forth. All rode the first loop which consisted primarily of tight woods trails. The second loop took riders into nearby stripper pits where a particularly muddy pit Hansen hauls at MadeliaHS By Dave Lundberg MADELIA, MN, ocr. 19 As farmers rushed to harvest meircrops from the surrounding fields, 100 riders raced for the gold at the 2nd Annual AMAlD-23 Elm Creek Hare Scrambles. Only Can-Am-mounted Joe Zeirman and Honda rider Craig Hansen completed nine laps with Hansen finishing first overall in 2: 12:45. The five and a half mile course laid out by Road &: Trail Cycle's Brian Lange and Malcolm Smith Products' DaveLundberg proved popular with tbe riders. It included two miles of woods, a one mile grass MX track, and a mix of swamps, pastures and hilly fields. At the end of the fir.st lap it was Kawasaki-mounted Mau Stavish in the lead by just seconds with Joe Zierman (Can-Am), Craig Hansen (Honda) and John Kucera (Yamaha) in tow. Zierman and Hansen worked their way around Stavish, with Zierman now in the lead. several laps out, Hansen then passed the Can-Am of Zierman. These top four riders were no more than seconds apart throughout the two hours. But Hansen and Zierrnan were the on.ly two riders to complete eight laps before the two hours expired. Then, in their ninth lap, Zierman caught up to Hansen's rear wheel and began trying for the lead only to run out of gas two and a hall miles from the finish, which let Hansen ride in for the overall viclOry. Racing Honda-mount ed Terry Poovey claimed dou ble victories today at Devil Bowl Speedway during th annual Harley-Davidson FalJ Round up Half Mile. Not only did Poove score a victory in the Pro class, he al nailed the win in the Dash for Cas bout. Scouy Adams and Mike Hale pu on a show in the first Pro heat rac with Adams taking the win, whil Poovey and fellow H.U.D. Racin rider Bill Herndon batHed in th second heat with Poovey prevailing Sammy Sweet finished up the hea racing with a win in the third round At the start of the Pro main, Poo vey came off the line and held on t the lead all the way despite a last-Ia charge by Sweet. The two riders cross ed the checkered flag inches apar with Poovey taking the win. Thir went to Herndon followed by Adam and Rusty Gourley. Vintage racing was featured in th Amateur race program for the firs time, and J.W. Jackson, riding BSA, beat out Harley-Davidson mounted Dave Best by inches. La Fleck finished third on a Triumph. Bob Shillinger finished fourth on Indian Warrior. Leonard wins WoN Island HS By Steve Genter REIDSVILLE, NC, ocr. 19 Can-Am'sGaryLeonardduel wim Honda-mounted Steve Me Swain for two hours befor winning round eight of th North Carolina Hare Scrambles Ser ies, held at Reidsville, Wolf Islan Downs. Wayne's Cycle Sales-spon sored Joel Baker and Meridian Hon da 's Steve Genter rounded out the to four overall. The lOOcc class again was domi nated by CRBO rider Daniel. Erwi with Kenny Frith finishing second Erwin made the demanding four mile course look easy as he Dew b the bigger bikes. The 125cc class was holeshot b Donny Graham on his Team Green KXl25. Graham, Greg Erwin and Steve Genter bauled it out unt' Graham kissed a tree leaving Genter and Erwin with first and second. Leonard also won the 200cc class, with Can-Am rider Jerry Russ taking second. David Ashley recovered from a bad fall on a downhill to claim third. Overall points-leader McSwain . dusted off the 250cc class aboard his CR250, leaving Joel Baker and Steve Cooke rounding out the top three. Open dass points leader Greg Bunn outgunned the Open class. Hondamounted Mike Hix had to make a last lap gas stop, allowing Husky rider Farrell Smtlh to move into second; Hix finished third. Early in the race, Four-Stroke class leader TOl'\1my Ashley nipped a tree with his XR, bending his gear shift lever. With Ashley making trail side repairs, Honda riders Doug Hyatt and Chris Walton cruised into first and second, sliding Ashley into third. The top rider in the Senior class was Allen Beck, who gained valuable series points on second place-finisher John Russell. Results 0-100: 1. Deniel Erwin; 2. Kenny Firth.
