In Open Pro racing, Mverscough leads Jeff Stanton. In the 250cc class, Stanton. took second overall and clinched the 250cc Trans-Cal title. moto holeshot, as Wooten stayed close behind. Craig held third followed by Watts Honda rider Kelly Andris and Myerscough. Watts began to close in on Craig and to finally overcome him on a rough straight, taking over third. A lap later, Watts was able to get by . Wooten to take over second. Craig held onto fourth followed by Myerscough and Stanton, who was playing it safe. Myerscough was still on the prowl and snuck up on Craig to pass him. for the fourth spot. The race stayed in that order until the eighth lap when Wooten, who was starting to slow slightly, allowed Myerscough enough time to get by him. Up front Frank was far into the lead with Warts in a cOll1fortable sec.ond position followed by Myerscough. With only two laps left and no position changes the race ended in that order. The first round of the 500s saw holeshot artist, Frank nail down another picture perfect start, closely followed by Honda riders Joey Schlag, ~anley and Willy Simmons. Schlag EJuickly moved past Frank and into the lead, but Frank stayed right with him. Myerscough worked his way up from a bad start and was running fourth and Stanon fifth. Things stayed the same until the fifth lap when Frank made a move on Schlag; the two riders rode tooth and , nail for an entire lap with Schlag not giving up any ground. Finally Frank dove underneath Schlag, trying LO stuff his way past him; the two riders collided wi th Frank going over the bars and Schlag getting out of shape and also going down. . Frank was first to remount and ended up in eighth, with Schlag out of the top 10. Myerscough' inherited the lead followed by Stanton, Manley, Andris and Simons, with Frank sixth. . The top three were evenly spread, . but Andris had his hands full with Simons on his trail, and finally got by to take fourth. Frank also passed Andris and was in for fifth with one lap remaining the race ended in that order. Moto two was all Manley's, having the fastest lap times of the day 2:14:79. Manley took the holeshot and never looked back, Watts held second and Simons th ird, while fourth and fifth was controlled by Stanton Lewis. Manneh wasted no time displacing Lewis of that position to take second. By the third lap Manneh was starting topressure leader Davis; and eventually got by when Davis failed to jump a set of doubles and Manneh scored past to take the lead. When the fifth lap came to a close the top three riders had pushed themselves ahead of the rest of the field to a 10 second gap between fourth place rider DeHoop with Craig holding on to fifth with Surratt sixth. Manneh continued to stretch his lead farther ahead, running a 2: 15:85 lap time. Things remained the same until lap nine when Craig got past DeHoop for fourth. Surratt took the same opportunity and also moved past DeHoop. Lewis started to gain on second place Davis and was inching his way closer until he pulled up alongside and simply out horsepowered him on a straight to take over second. The race remained the same until the finish. Manneh took the win followed by Lewis and Davis. Round one of the' 250s had Frank with a clean holeshot as Stanton, Wooten, Russ .Wageman, (Yamaha) and Kawasaki rider Tommy WallS gave chase, On the third lap Frank still led but had his hands full holding 'off Stanton, while Watts eliminated himself over the doubles attempting to pass Wageman. Watts' bike landed just short with his front wheel hitting the lip of the second jump sending him over the bars. He was stunned and dropped out of contention, though he remounted unhurt. Myerscough found himself in fourth after getting past Wageman. Up front Stanton was charging hard to finally get by Frank through the whoops to capture the lead. This had the top five Stanton, Frank, Wooten, Myerscough, Wageman and Kawasaki rider Terry Fowler. Making noticeable improvement coming through the pack was Mike Craig (Yamaha) after a bad start. He was into sixth and moving up on Fowler. Craig chased Fowler for two laps and finally got by on the 10th lap. The moLO came to a close with Stanton taking the win over Frank and Wooten. Frank once again shotto.the front of the pack to capture the secolld . -, Yamaha-01ounted Billy Frank went 2-1 and claimed the 250cc. Pro class win at Argyll Park over Stanton and Myerscough. Winner Bader Manneh (42) is closely pursued by Honda-mounted Willie Surratt in the 125cc Pro division. Manneh topped both motos for the overall. and Schlag. Manley walked away from the field, the only close competiLOrs were WatLS and Simons. Simons was trying desperately to get by Watts, and finally did, but,Watts came right back on the last lap LO repass him for second and the race ended with Manley and his commanding lead, followed by Watts and Simons. The 80cc Expert class was once again dominated by one rider Suzuki's Jimmy Gaddis.
