Hyde came into the event in a virtual tie for second with BaIlard and
Lojak just ahead in the complicated
points spread. A win by Lojak would
assure the title as the best six of II
events registered the champion. Lojak
had four overaIl wins under his belt,
including the most recent round in
Indiana. Hyde, meanwhile, used several first-place finishes and year-long
consistency throughout the title chase.
And on Sunday it was again cons istenc;y that paid off for Hyde, as the
luckless Lojak snapped a chain with
just a lap and a half left for the championship. Hyde motored by his faIlen
teammate and eased through the lappers for the title. Ballard, blistered and
disappointed, was next across the
line, but the elapsed time put his fellow Can-Am pilot Ron Naylor in
