interests of the state's OHV community. Even more alarming is the faCl that the California's OH-Highway Vehicle Division, whose main function is to work on behalf of OHV users, supponed this action to gut the green sticker fund." Gov. Deukmejian has refused to answer questions about the LUrnaround on the OHV issue from his last campaign. EHorts to obtain statemems from his oHice on the subjcet have been rebuHed. - COMPETmON SEES NEITHER HYDE NOR HARE IN WEST VIRGINIA fter long, hard, dog-eatA dog asummer, Team Husky'sin Mark Hyde emerged victorious Motorcycle/A TV opponents up for reelection the 1986 AMA National Championship Hare Scrambles point standings with a convincing overall win in the final round at Bruceton Mills, West Virginia. Hyde's trusty Husky 430 automatic never missed a beat, as he thoroughly dominated a murderous course and a starstudded field in the season curtain-closer. But that's not all. Husky riders made it a clean sweep at Bruceton Mills, taking down impressive wins in every series class. Tom Buckles captured the 4-stroke title on his Husky 510. Ed Lojak nailed down 250 honors on his Hysky 250 Cross Country. A]1d Jeff Dawson was king of the 125 hill on his nimble Husky 125 Cross Country. All in all, a typical day for Husky-mounted racers, who have made winning a habit all summer long on the demanding Hare Scrambles national circuit. Almost 20 congressmen who voted to ban three-wheeled ATVs, anda U.S. Senator from California who would close most of the California desen to oHroad riding, are up for reelection November 4. Unless motorcyclists and ATV enthusiasts vote in record numbers lO help turn them out of office, Georgia Congressman Doug Barnard and his Democratic cohons on the House Governmem Operations Committee undoubtedly will cominue to push for a nationwide ban of three-wheeled ATVs, while SenalOr Alan Cranston will step up eHons lO close millions of acres to oH-road riding in southern California. Last June, Barnard led a successful baule by commiuee Democrats lO approve a drah repon which called for a tOlal ban and recall of threewheeled ATVs. If reelected, the Democrats who VOted for the ban undoubtedly will find fault with a recently released Consumer Product Safety Commission repon that does not seek a general ATV ban; those Democrats most• likely will apply political I • pressure 10 a partlsan auempt to force the CPSC to reverse itself. Also last year, CranslOn introduced Senate Bill S.2061, the Desert Protection Act of 1986, which would close approximately nine million acres of California desert lO orr-road riders. H reelected, Cranston is ex pected to reintroduce the bill 'when cong.ress opens for business early next year. Motorcycle and ATV enthusiasts can strike back when polls open November 4 by voting against federal representatives who would abolish their right to ride. California's oH-road enthusiasts should mark Cranston for defeat, while riders from several states can help vote out Barnard and his colleagues. Other anti-ATV congressmen on Barnard's commiuee include: Chairman Jack Brooks (D-TX), Cardiss Collins (D-IL), Glenn English (D-OK), Henry Waxman (D-CA), Ted Weiss (D-NY), Mike Synar (D-OK), Barney Frank (D-MA), Tom Lantos (D-CA), Bob Wise (D-WV), Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Major Owens (D-NY), Edolphus Towns (D-NY), John Spratt (D-Sq, Joe Kolter (D-PA), Ben Erdreich (D-AL), Gerald Kleczka (D-. WI), Alben Bustamante (D-TX), Matthew Martinez (D-CA). Riders can help reelect Republicans on the House Operations Commiuee who supported ATVs. The Republicans who voted against the ban and recall include: Roben Walker (R-PA), William Clinger (RPAl, Al McCandless (R-CA), longtimeATV proponent LarryCraig(R10), Howard Nielson (R-UT), H. James SaxlOn (R-NJ), Patrick Swindall (R-GA), Tom DeLay (R-TX), Joseph DioGuardi (R-NY), Dick· Armey (R-TX), John Lightfoot (RIA), John Miller (R-WA), Beau Boulter (R-TX). _ ~H METZELER Husqvarna Distributed by Gagiva North America, Inc:. >p A FAST LESSON IN SCIENCEII 8fLlEDDUAL-~CONSTlUCnGN •NSUS;i~( • MOTORCYCLE CHAIN 1..
