Lap three featured a heated battle for third as' Myerscough, Wageman and Watts fought feverishly. Myerscought gOt by WallS and started LO pull away while chasing· the Ie-dder Stan LOn. WallS was also on the prowl and staned off after Myerscough, who by this time wa in striking distance of StanLOn. Stanton was soon swallowed up by Myerscough's incredible drive. Wageman held on to fourth with Pestana fifth. The 500cc class had Honda-supponed Brian Manley take the holeshot in the first moLO with Joey Schlag in hot pursuit followed by StanLOn, Simons, WallS and Wageman. Manley made three more turns and looked down as Stanton, imons and WallS flew by. "When he (Schlag) hit me somehow my shift lever gOt bent underneath the case," Manley said. Manley pushed his crippled bike off the track and re-entered the race four laps later. Up front Stanton rode flawlessly, but W"tts was hungrily moving up on Simons. He soon got by the Honda pilot. Meanwhile, Wageman controlled fourth while Rich My then held fifth. A lap later Greg Torgerson got past My then to take over fifth. Everyone stayed in those positions to the fi nish with Stanton taking the win with WallS second and Simons third.
