Norris, Reynolds daim Idaho STwins By Mike Thuleen BOISE. !D, SEPT. 12 Experts Troy Norris (Open),. and Rod Reynolds (250) put the steel toe on, found the fast lines and put away victories at the DMC Idaho State Shan Track Championships at the Peaceful Cove track. Kal-Gard/K&N/Tsubaki/ -D/ Honda of Caldwell-supported orris (Honda) broke away from the pack LO lead the 20-Jap Open Expert main. Behind Norris in the first turn was Rod Reynolds (K& /Miller Products/ Carl's Cycles/Cycle Nuts 'n' Bolts). Chad Wayment (Wood-Rotax). Kit Farley (Rotax), Dean James. Gary Bonney. Gordon Smith and Ricky Henson. In the first couple of laps, Reynolds was all over Norris. pressuring him in every corner, but orris kept his concemT<~tion and pushed out a good lead. The once tacky track surface became exceptionally slick and Reynolds lost cOlllrol, sliding out in turn one. Reynolds immediately jumped back on his bike LO try and catch Norris. Meanwhile. Farley got under Chad Wayment to gain control of third and move closer to Reynolds. After Reynolds bailed. Farley was right on Reynolds. searching for a way underneath. While Reynolds was able LO block the charging Farley, no ground cou Id be gained on Norris, who excelled on the slick track. Norris took the checkers njneto-IO lengths ahead of Reynold and Farley; \'\Iayment. Gary Bonney and Rick Henson followed. Rod Koford (Honda) took tbe green light ahead of Reynold, Rick Henson and Jeff Russell in the 250cc Expert main Koford fought off Reynolds for the first lap. but Reynolds pushed underneath and exploded to establ ish a large lead over Koford. A short ways in back of Koford. Hen on and Rus ell dueled. Henson maintained his position over Russell until tbecheckers. giving him third behind Reynolds and Koford. Cycle uts 'n' Bolts rider Pete Keller mastered the start in the I 25cc Expert main With local Pro MXer Darren Spiers and desert specialist Rick Doom sliding closely behind. TX, SEPT. 14 Novice Craig Gleason made his full day of practice Saturday payoff by winning five classes on his Suzuki GSXR750 Sunday, as the Central Road Racing Club returned LO Oak Hill Raceway. Glea on won in BSuperbike, A uperbike. A Production, B Production, and Formula One. The CRRC returned to Henderson for on Iy the second time this year after a season long battle to retain insurance for the race track. The course is tight and narrow, a far cry frorD the wide-open Texas World Speedway that CRRC also uses. The race day started with the Clubman/Vintage combined event. Expert Seth Avan t started au t leading for the first two laps, but began feeling pressure on the third lap from Novices Don Nay and Michael Garrett. Eventually Garrell, on a Yamaha TZR250. and ay on a Kawasaki 250 Ninja. passed Avant on his Honda thumper. Since he had first Expert sewn up, Avant slowed and let the pair battle it out. The Yamaha had big end through turn one and the long straight LO turn two. but the Kawasaki pulled back in tbe tight back section. Garrell won by two seconds and the front trio was a long way ahead of tbe Novice trio of Danny Lowther, Joe Williams, and Chad McCracken. The 600cc Novice classes were plagued by crashes that required the races to be stopped while tbe ambulance was on the track. The C Production class had run one full lap when a rider went 0(( in the creek after fast turn one. He was unhurt and the officials decided LO start the race over with original grid positions. Larry Schwarzbacn roared from the sixth rowan his Honda 500 Interceptor and soon was battling Russell Collins, on a Kawasaki 600 Ninja, for first. The pair led Yamaha FZ600mounted Rickey Bledsoe and John Glueck by three seconds until on the sixth of eight laps the leaders collided in turn even. Both riders exited the track but only Schwarzbach returned. Bledsoe won the race by about two seconds over GI ueck with 'Eric Fait in tbird. and Greg Waheed in fourth. Schwarzbach got back up LO ixth. C .uperbike ovice ran smoothly for six laps with Schwarzbach again bringing up the front followed 'by Bledsoe. Glueck, and Gary Spears. Two riders collided entering tum seven on the seventh lap and the race was stopped and scored from the sixth lap.
