tobacco advertising to survive in good health. RALPH W. GLORIOSO Sama Rosa, CA I'll bet you the ,riders who split up $1,390,000 in Camel Pro point fund money from 1974 through last year will argue that point with you, Ralph. As will the promoters who've shared more than that in advertising benefits. Let's see, how well off would Jay Springsteen be if he hadn't received 1144,000 from Camel, Randy Goss $121,900, Ricky Graham 1121,600, Gary Scott 1102,350, Steve Eklund 183,450 and so on ... Editor. Where's the recognition? What's happened to our AMA Amateur and Youth National Championship Din Track racing program? We traveled many miles this summer to the Championships in New York ... we had a hectic two weeks of racing. There was no major news coverage. When my son became overall Grand National Amateur Qlampion in the 60cc Modified class we won a jacket that wilJ be shipped to'us later and some nice trophies in each class and evem he was iIi. But in other Nationals we have participated in (1982, 1983 and 1984) companies like Wiseco, Klotz and Shoei, just to name a few, gave away helmets, clocks, watches, hats, sun visors, gift certificates, T-shirts, Savings Bonds, etc. These prizes weren't just given to first place riders but were. awarded down to fifth place and riders came away with something worthwhile and feeling great. What has happened to all the sponsors. When you stop giving to these kids and they get discouraged and quit participating on a National level where are your future stars of tomorrow going to come from? Was this event not even worthy of a results printout somewhere? MRS. PAT BARROW Beaver Dam, KY By now you've seen not only results from the AMA Amateur and Youth National Championships, but we trust you've seen your son's picture in AM magazine, Pat. Soliciting contingency awards or gifts is the respon- sibility of the event's promoter . .. Editor.
