art. Carlos Gomez and Jeff Paggio dropped in behind Stewart. A massive pile up in turn three left the'top three with a huge lead over the rest of the field. Paggio was able to slip around Gomez into second, but Stewart beat him to the checkers for the win. In moto two Eads again holeshot and this time took it in [or a first place finish after trading places with J on Carver midway through the race. Fosnock styles to Pro-Caliber MX By Susan Willian TERRE HAUTE, IN, AUG. 30 Todd Colbert won the 250cc C class at Florida's Dade City Raceway. Colberth took the win with a 1-2 moto tally. Morsbead doing most o[ his with plain old fashioned horsepower out of turn II and Obermuller's on the brakes entering seven and II. Pingel takes Dade CityMX By Ben Sanders DADE CITY, FL, AUG. 30 Jeff Pingel, Cliff Giles and Steve Young bagged back-toback wins to take the overalls in their respective classes at 38 Round 12 of Dade City Raceway's Points Championship Series. Pingel dominated both motos o[ the Open Novice class. In moto one, Pingel launched, his KX500 into the lead right off the gate and neyer looked back, taking the wire-to-wire win. Mike Cook dropped in behind Pingel [or second, but trouble with a lapped rider denied him the chance to challenge. Tony Decosmo moved up to third with Rudy Savelli charging in behind him for the fourth position. In moto two, Pingel once again led from start-to-finish. As Pingel pulled out of turn two with the lead, Scott SaIkil stuffed his Kawasaki inside of Cook's Honda, forcing Cook out of the berm and allowing Dan Crawford and Scott Taylor to ~Iip into third and fourth places, respectively. Cook wasted no time in working his way back up to third, but was unable to catch up with Pingel and Salkil before the checkers. In the 250cc C class Robbie Lewis holeshot moto one and led t.hrough the first part of the race before Todd Colbert was able to move around him into first. Lewis was then challenged by Jeff Minor, who eventually pushed into second, leaving Lewis with a third place finish. When he gate dropped for the second moto, Lewis once again found himself with the holeshot and this time he held his lead all the way to the finish. Lewis' 3-1 moto score was nol enough, however, to beat out Colbert'S 1-2 ride. Colbert took second in the moto and first overall by working his way around D.L. Mays after a third place start; Mays held on [or third. In the combined 250cc A and B classes it was B rider Steve Young who came away with the holeshot and ledA riders Harold Mathews and Cliff Giles [or a short while until Mathews and Young drifted wide in the sweeper, allowirig Giles to shoot underneath them and into the lead. Mathews made it past Youngandfollowed Giles to the checkers. While Young stayed out in fronto[ fellow B ridersJ~f Pingel andDavi.d MacNeal. Madll'eal holeshot moto two with Pingel just behind him in second. Pingel went down, however, and had dropped back to dead last belore he could get going again. This left Giles and Young to c;hase after MacNeal. Giles moved into the lead [or good by soaring over a massive double whi,ch MacNeal did not attempt. MacNeal then fell in the next turn, giving the B . class lead to Young, who held off a late moto charge by Robert Noah, for the victory and the B class overall. Giles took theA class with his 1-1 tally. In the 125cc Beginner class Scott Eads holeshot, but fell in the first turn giving the lead to James Stew- Beckman Kawasaki/Suzukibacked Billy Fosnock's flashy riding brightened the heat competition at Pro-Caliber tonight. Fosnock gassed his machine around the first turn as he took the lead in the 125cc A and stretched it out for the win with Downers Grove Yamahamounted Mike Roth stalling, but maintaining second over Darren Brocherding. Roth was the fast guy at the drop of the gate in moto two while Fosnock purposely stayed at the gate. Roth dominated the majority o[ the moto with Fosnock playing catch-up. As Fosnock closed on Roth, the chain on Roth's bike derailed and Fosnock went by to take the lead. Roth was back underway after repairs, but Fosnock held to first with Roth·taking another second. Mike Kurzeja nabbed the lead in the I25cc B class as he almost lost it in ~he washboard section. A race for second developed between Mike Bryant, who seemed to be adapting well to the I25cc after recently leaving the Mini class and Missouri's Travis Kobush. Kobush hammered by Bryant to take over second while Kurzeja mastered the win. Kurzeja was again an early leader in moto two, but was surprised as young Bryant sky-jumped to move around and take over the lead_ Kurzeja repassed Bryant only to crash as Bryant regained that front position [ollowed by Kobush. Kobush crashed while trying to get around Bryant and Kurzeja, back underway, went down again. Kobush again hounded Bryant for first and wen t by to take the moto win as Bryant crashed dJ-opping to fourth with Kurzeja finishing sixth. Boyd Wolff won both motos of the Automatics while Tony Costa gave it I)is all '[or second. Costa rode with a partially separated shoulder which he injured in practice. Charles Hancock piloted his machine to the front of the pack in the Senior class, but crashed allowing John Farmer to take the lead. Hancock dropped to fourth, but managed to move in on second place rider Terry McGinnis. Hancock pegged it through the straightaway to move' into second as the two riders closed the throttle to make a midair pass on Farmer to take thefuotowin. McGinnis finished second after also passing' Farmer. The second moto saw Hancock again in front as he was pursued by Farmer. Hancock got sideways through the washboard, but clung to first [or the win. McGinnis closed the gap on the second place"Farmer as he pushed to catch up. George tops Bolado Scrambles By Mike Vancil HOLLISTER, CA, AUG. 23 Honda-mounted Lynn George proved his point with a pair of perfect rides in Veteran class scrambles racing tonight, held at Bolado Park Rodeo grounds near Holli.ster. The event was promoted by R&D Enterprises and sponsored by Stroh's Beer. In the heat race, George fended ofr the close-wheel challenge of Melvin Elias, who was riding a Yamaha TT. In the final, Elias had a problem and nearly crashed into a row of straw. bales, while George'took the point position. Elias' slip opened the door for regular performer, and form r motocrosser, Gary Milewski on his San Jose-based Honda. Milewski chased George for the IO-lap distance, but could not force a pass. George made no mistakes and took the checkers clearly in command. Finishing third was Modesto's James Mahoney, on another Honda. In the 500cc Junior final, Brad Spencer was permitted to ride, even tbough he is an Expert. Spencer agreed to avoid interference with any of the Junior-rider action. HI; promised referee Jack Barton Jr. that he would either be out in front, or in last, but would keepouto[everyone's way. He lived up to his promise. He was lighrning 0[[ the line and just flat left everyone in his dust. Running in Spencer's wake was Junior Kerry Puccio, ridinganimmaculate Honda sponsored by J &M Air Brush and Puccio Welding. Not to be Oller-shadowed was Marty Aglibot of Salinas. Aglibot's start was not the quickest, but he did get into the first corner fourth, third Junior, and midway through the 10-lap final, got a wheel under Steve Stewart and his Yamaha.
