PERRIS, CA, AUG. 23 Joey Tuttobene rode his Yamah~ to victory in the l25cc Pro class at this week's SMX Saturday motocross race at Perris. Tuttobene's win was hard:won as he battled with Jirst-mow wirmeJ Chris Taylor (Yamaha) and second-moto victor Bill Scott, who was Hondamounted. Tuttobene's consistent 2-2 score outpointed his rivals, however, as Scott earned the runner-up slot and Taylor placed founh. Tim Whitlock claimed the top honors in the 250cc Intermedia te race as he swept both motos ahead of a fierce second-place battle. Suzukimounted Ken Erb finally nailed down the number twO position with Ernie Becker pushing his Honda to third, just edging a hard-charging Tibor Papp. Damon Mann reached the checkers first in round two of the Open Novice event to earn the overall win. Chasing Mann to the nag was secondoverall finisher Rick Phillips on Honda, while Yamaha-mounted George Pennington placed third. The Vet Expenclass fell to theonslaught of Kawasaki pilot Alan Olson despite an intense two-moto duel {,with former factory star Rich Eir. stedt. Honda-mounted Eirstedtkept the pressure'on Olson in both rounds, but Olson was not intimidated and Eirstedl's long layoff apparently hampered his famed late-moto charge. Jody Weisel rounded out the top three. Three riders battled for supremecy in the 80cc Beginner class, with Suzuki rider Sumner Soule just beating Honda pilot Timmy Olson as Steve Huddleston took third. a Results OPEN PIlO: 1. Borderline Racing Association's Bill Stork nabbed a pair of wins in the 125 and 250cc Pro classes at Spearfish MX. Stork pulled the holeshot in the l25cc Pro division and was followed by Scott Jensen, Gene Montgomery and LeeVern Berry. Berry then moved up into third place after passing Montgomery over the doubles. While all of this was going on, Stork had already opened up a good lead, but Berry began to close in on him. Finally, Berry's injury began to take its toll and Stork led Berry by half a Jap. Though Berry was hurting, he rode a good tace and finished second behind Stork. Jensen, Montgomery and Dale Ruggles rounded out the top five. In the second moto it was Berry first 9£f.the line, followed by Stork, Ruggles, Montgomery, Jensen and Chris Rader. On the backside of the track, St.ork passed Berry on the sweeper and in the next corner Berry repassed Stork, and then Stork went back around Berry for good. Results MINI A: 1. Randy Stahl.; 2. "I really went out there with the idea of winning. It was not a go for second attack," Sisemore said after the races and none too complacently. With 14 points in the bank, the rest of theraces were great but for naught as the title was won. Event 19 saw Geranio a wi nner over Crawford that made for the fourth tie at 10 points with Houston cra hing after bouncing off Ceranio. Orlandi's win in the final gave him third with II points. Sisemore's four wins was a second place effort at 12 with a run-off scheduled for Houston, Martin, Parsons and Crawford. Houston wasn't up to the call with the hard crash and so the run off was a MaTti n benefit after Crawford pulled a 360-degree twist. The trophy presentation proved that the fans like B.ad Bart best and he got a standing ovation for both the ni~ht's work and the season's tally of bemg number one 10 northern California. Having led the NorCal points for the better part of the seaon, he had only one miscue, in the second round against John Houston, Jr., but then rode the rest of the night on the crest of victory that not only got him the NorCaJ number one plate, but the Coors Championship as well.
