in the 250cc Expert division, and Mike Varnes, who had an easy time taking the 125cc Expert finals both days. George Price, Varnes' main competition, broke his collarbone in the opening lap of the l25cc Expert heat. In addition to Lloyd, several other Amateur riders topped their class both days. Kevin Varnes easily demoli hed the 85s, Joe Heberling again LOpped the niors, whileAdam Weiss won the 500cc Amateur final both days. Rich Rowe put his somewhat tired Frank's Cycles Woods-Rotax in front of the 500cc Experts. It was the third class of the day for the machine as Larry al1d Adam Weiss rode it in the Senior and 500cc Amateur classes. Tom Majeski emerged in second, as Larry Sweeten, Dale Gingrich and Rob Majeski settled into a c1ose'battle for third. Rowe held on to the lead for over six laps, until he bobbled slightly coming out of four, with Majeski by him ina flash. While Majeski quickly pu lled several lengths ahead, brother Rob nipped Gingrich by inches for third. On Sunday, Gingrich quickly put his Zechman's Cycle Sales Yamaha to the front of the 250cc Expert class final and gradually pulled away while two 10-lap battles were being waged behind him. Joe Bromley and Eric Johncox fought closely over second, while Dave Duhaine and Drew Drevecchio were holding discussions over fourth. As they started the final lap, Johncox got by Bromley for second. Ben Machamer developed a habit at the beginning of the month winning, and he closed out the month with his third win in four starts in the always unpredictable 250cc Amateur class. But he needed the hel p of a restart after four laps to do it. Dave Lesnick, Mike KJo£p and Machamer blew past early leaaer Brian Tillson coming off the second tum on lap twO, with Lesnick a few lengths in front of the Klopp/Machamer second place swapfest. Machamer used the restart to close in on Lesnick, taking the lead as they started the sixth lap. Lesnick tried to wrest the lead on the ninth lap, but Machamer closed the door. On the final lap, George Fultz displaced Klopp for third spot. Joe Heberling had stiff competition from the Weiss family and the same bike. He led a tightly bunched pack at the start of the Senior race, with father Larry, Carl Nabinger and Steve Wilson on his tail. Weiss took the lead on the second lap, but Heberling regained it on the next lap. About halfway, Wilson displaced Nabinger for third spot, while Heberling held on to win by a length. The 500cc Amateur final was the opposite for Joe Heberling as the son, Adam, grabbed the lead with Heberling and Ten)' Swartley in close pursuit. Adam Heberling held on to win by two lengths.
