With the lack of rain for the paSl lWO months and lemperatures pushing over 100°, several seclions of the CITA Austin Trial were made relalively easy LO avoid any heal exhaustion problems. The Masler class was domina led by Yamaha-mounted Randy Hamlin who dropped 23 points in lhree loops . wilh 15 of his points a tlTi buted LO the Wheelie seclion. Juslin Dyess had an excellent ride and finished second, holding off the 1984-85 winner, Ron Balchelor, who placed third. In the 250cc Amaleur race, run concurrently wilh the Pros, Joe Marziano sly led to easy wins in bolh moLOS. Dan Bonham and Deano Cowan sparked fireworks all night long in the I 25cc Amaleur class. Bonham won molO one in the 125cc Modified division, bUl Cowan grabbed lhe holeshol in UlOLO lWO while Bonham tried to pass. Bonham fell on lap lhree, which left the door open for Paul Reed. Reed, who rode hard all nighl LO keep Bonham and Cowan in sighl, look a well-deserved second in mOlO lWO. Cowan look the overall win. By Clark Francy COSTANIA, OH, AUG. 8-10 George Rudisill, Kerry Kureta, and Pat McCann were the big winners at the 5th Annual Classic British and European MOLOrcycle Rally sponosred by the Ohio Valley BSA Owners Club. The lhree day event, held al Cable's Camp Grounds near Coslonia, was nearly CUl shoTl by an inlense summer SlOrm which centered over the area early on lhe laSl day. The AMA-sanclioned event gOl underway on Friday with the early arrival of the club's guest, former nalional f1al tracker John Carr of Madison, Wisconsin. Carr broughl an unusual quanet of bikes wilh him, including an early 50s Vincent, exrace bikes of Gary SCOll (Triumph) and Team Hansen (Gold Slar), and a very rare 19l2Triumph. Banners pro" claimin~ old, yel familiar slogans, and accessory vendors were also on hand. By nighlfall, the campgrounds had been lransformed into a tent cily of mOlorcycl iSls from 14 Slates 'and Canasla. The mOlorcycles regislered presented a good mix of the different makes imponed into this country. BSAs, NoTtons, and Triumphs were plentiful, wilh Greeves, Vincents, Malchlesses, Ariels, Veloceues, Royal Enfields, European classics, and a lone AJS also on hand. Several personalilies from lhe mOLOrcycling communily also were in auendance. Former BSA faclory learn rider Elmer Morra and nalional diTltracker Dick Dickinson were presenl as was long time 'Cycle News correspondent and nOled mOLOrcycle lileralure specialisl, Lee Cowie. The first scheduled event was a 40mile reliabilily run which look compelilors over many secondary roads and two-track trails in the area. Accurale lime keeping was a mUSl for lhis enduro-like event, in which former Canadian enduro champion Ben Weisz .edged OUl New Yorker Dick Harris. Third place was laken by Bruce Williams on a 1955 Horex. A new event allhis year's rally was lhe VintaRe Trials, in which participants used lrials bikes of yesleryear to lackie a gruel ing, 10 seclion course over wooded lerrain.
