I- :r t:l :J ~ u >- al o Io :r "" Miles styles at Albany5X By Clay light ALBANY, OR, AUG. 16 Yamaha-mounted Jeff Miles styled his way into the winner's circle after posting 1-1 rides to .win the 250cc B class during Motocross Northwest-sanctioned supercross at Albany Speedway. In moLO one it was Miles mOLOring away with the race with Eric Knudson and Larry Hansen second and third, respectively. Moto two was also won by Miles after a duel with Tra"is Brown. Miles, Brown, Hansen, Knudsen and Ray Gamon (Honda) filled the top five at the fi n ish with Ha nsen and Kn udson trailing Miles in the overall standings. Another stellar performance came from Honda pilot John Griffin. Griffin and Richard Burtch had a battle in moto one of the 250cc class, but in the end Griffin prevai led. Third went to Rick Walling in the 17 -rider field. MOLO two saw Griffin, Walling and Bill Naylor holding down the top three ahead of Bunch and Glendal Hansen, who moved up from the 80cc ranks. Griffin grabbed the overall with 1-1 rides to beat Naylor's 4-2 and Wa1li.ng's 3.:3. . The largest class of the day's program was the 21-rider 125cc C division. Washington's Jeff Jacobson went nearly uncontested and like Griffin and Miles, posted impressive wins in both motos. Jacobson and Shan Echelberger dueled oyer second in the sandy terrain throughout both eight-lap mOlOS, but in the end it was Jacobson jamming his way to the checkered nag before Echel berger and early-leader Jason Crandall. Crandall yielded to both Jacobson and E<:;helberger for an eventual third place finish fora 3-3 third overall ahead of Troy McPike, who put in 5-4 rides and the 4-5 performances from Derek Lockrem who was fifth. Grayson Han used today's race as a warm-up for the CMC Pac-West series finale the following day and also put in impressive rides to win the 125cc Pro class over Willy Musgrave and Keith Foide!. Han went I-I to earn top cash on the LRD/DMC/Pro Caliber Kawasaki while Musgrave nabbed second via 2-2 rides over local rider Foidel's 3-3 performance. In the Open Pro class it was Han puuing his Yamaha inLO the lead for keeps to beat Honda ridh Jerry Wil-' son, who was Han's dosest competition. Wilson logged 2-2 for second to beat Kawasaki-moumed Timmy Walker's 3-3. Grayson Hart won the 125cc and Open Pro,classes in Albany, OR. Nitto doubles at Firebird RR By Michael Ross' CHANDLER, AZ, AUG. 16 Walter Nitto took wins in Superbike A and B last night during round three of the Phoenix Road Racing Organization Summer Night Road Race Series at Firebird Raceway. Nitta grabbed the lead Of the Superbike B race on his Yamaha FZ750 sponsored by Performance Machine/Shoei(SuperTrapp/ Dunlop/ND/and Spectra with local rider Kelly Byrd glued to his rear fender. Nitto led every lapofLhe 15-lap race, 'holding olf Byrd in the twisting section of the track. '''Walt had more top-end and he can block real good," said Byrd later. Nitto's Curt Jordantuned 750 easily out-powered Byrd down the straightaway. Craig Martin mounted a valiant attempt to keep the leaders in sight but had to settle for third at the checkered flag. Byrd did some quick rejetting before the Superbike A and C race and this time led NitLO for eight laps. Walt re~lI y put on the pressure and passed Byrd down the {rant straight to lead lap nine. On the next lap Tommy Dahl overcooked turn f4 and crashed hard. Chief Steward Mike Mahoney quickly red-flagged the race with Nitto the winner. In Superbike C Henry Tecza's Dyno-Jet/Kerker/Nevada Yamaha/ California Hotel/Sam's Town/Double Down Racing-sponsored Yamaha FZ600 beat Stock C Champ Joe Shelton to the checkered flag by hall a lap. Tecza, who ran fourth overall during Superbike A and C, rode aggressively after a frustrating DNF in the previous race. Californian Eric Seward took the Formula Two crown after a tight race with Michael Ross and then Tim Bergstrom, all on 600 Yamahas. Seward ran fourth overall behind Formula One winner Kelly Byrd, Brian J oder and Lance Baker. Scott Willock easily won the Formula Three class with his Yamaha RZ350 in seventh overa II.
