Y.-*r_ By Charlie Rogers WESTERVILLE, OH, AUG. 7-9 Over 200 AMA Life Members and their guests made their way from across the n'ation to attend the 3rd Annual AMA Life Member Convention in Columbus. The convention is held to honor the Association's . s~rongest supp0.rters, and IS a tIme for those nders to get reacquainted with old friends, 405 US " _ 1 ~ 33. AddlUonally, an antique and classi~ motorcy~le show was held, along with a sel'mnar on the wo~k of the AMA's Government Relauons Depanment. Tours were also held to the natIonally known Colum~us Zoo, the Wyand~lle Lake ~ecreauon are~, and the OhIO State Fair, the country s largest. That evening a coumry-and-western b~rbecu~ and par~y was held. At the dinner, Introd1!cuon.s of the staff were made and an tntervlew was held with Jim Davis, a din-track racer whose career spanned 21. years: [rom. 1916 to 1937. After the interview, a band played Into the wee hours of the morning. • The following day began with the recreation of an old favorite, the gypsy tour. The gypsy tour, which begafl in 1917 and ran until the late '50s, was the most popular form of road riding activity and brought out thousands of riders each year. In 1986, the gypsy tour look AMA Life Member to Honda Hills, a racing facility in Linnville. which is run by former racing ~~at Dick}(1amfo~h.
