The FXLR Low Rider Custom is Harley's top entry for 1987. A custom look
in a rubber-mounted chassis; the bike features new larger 39mm fork
tubes, forged triple clamps, a 12-degree shock angle change and a castalloy rear wheel.

Harley's XLH-883 Sportster will feature a closer retio, four-speed gearbox,
die-cast heads, n_ intemlll muffler design and a ~ ignition curve and is

"This machine is very important to
us," Harley-Davidson's Public Rela'tions Manager Buzz Buzzelli says. The
importance of the Low Rider Custom
was further enhanced by the companies earlier-than-planned release date;
the company is only now beginning
shipments to its dealers. The 1340cc
four-stroke, 45-degree V-twin has a
suggested relai I price of $9099.
Mosl of the 1987 Harleys feature
changes, albeit small, in design and
manufacturing. The XLH Sportster
Series will now feature cast alloy,
seven-spoke whee-Is, -an improved
speedomeler drive and different rear
view mirrors. The 1987 FXRT SpOrt
Glide will get Harley's premium sound
system and adjuslable highway pegs,
while replacing the discontinued FXRD
Grand Touring Edition. All 1987
Harleys will have die-casl cylinder
heads and stronger rod bearings.
Among design changes for most of
the new Harleys is a larger selection of
available colors: candy bronze, candy
brandywine, metallic blue/silver twotone, brandywine/crimson two-tone
and others will join the company's
classic vivid-black for 1987.
