A G. 5 Mike Faria, the winningest rider ever at Ventura Raceway, added a pair of speedway trophies to his sizeable collection by winning both main events Tuesday night. It was the fifth time Faria has won both mains at Ventura. and his 48th and 49th victories at "The Commotion By The Ocean." Faria just skated by in his Handicap heat with a third place finish. He improved dramatically after that. winning his next five rides. In his semi. Faria cut inside of Jimmy Gentile on the last lap for the win and a rousingcheerfrom the crowd. Second for Gentile meant a trip to the main, a vast improvement from the previous week when he was tossed out by the referee on his birthday. Faria had to win the Handicap main twice. He 'naked by everyone after two laps to take the lead but Doug Bowers fell and Rocky Robinson was forced to turn in a saving lay down. On the restart. Faria pa sed Ed Castro and Robinson when they went tOO wide around turn two. Then he blazed by Gentile again and had the lead for good after less. than three laps. "You seem to have the racing down all right. butlthink you need to work on yourwheeliesa little bit." quipped Bart Bast to Faria in the pits afterwards. Faria won his first twO Scratch rides easily. In the main, Bob Ou got the gate. but Faria new around him in turn two and that was that. For Ou. the runner-up performance was his most impre sive since breaking his collarbone at Ventura three months ago. Billy Hamill made his Ventura debut and won his heat and the Second Division main for the 20-yard line. New York's Dave' Fallon smoked them all to take Third Division honors. Results SCRATCH: I.
