He closed the ga p on lap three, bu t by the time the heckered flag unfurled Faria was counting out his winning paycheck for the second Saturday night in a row. The main reason that Faria failed to make it to the Handicap main i the fact that he never got out of his Handicap heat race. In that one Louis KOSSULh (NJKlLou's Service/Smith Goggles Jawa) held him off over the final two go'rounds for the last transfer spots. Kossuth made it through his semi and into the main where he turned in a beautiful performance. He weaved his way around the competition from hi 30-yard line starting berth and he passed Chris Martin for the lead on lap [our. From there Kossuth padded his lead and he took the win on the night that he was -celebrating his 22nd birthday. Martin got his best finish o[ the year by taking second with Brown again taking third. Victorville's own Walt Foster was promoted to Second Division and he promptly won the main off the zero yard line over Jim Blan and Bentley Barrett. Tony Frank (F.P.&M. Weslake) won the red-nagged-shortened Third Division main from Jim Rogin and the "Flying Chicano" Tony Gomez. SCRATCH: 1. Mike Faria (Jaw); 2. Ronnie Correy (Wes); 3. Scotty Brown (Jaw). Mike Delacy and Pill Linn had the fans on their collective feet for the final heat with side-by-side dueling and Delacy the winner by inches with Kid Curry, now complete with new Skoal Bandit colors, in for third. Lining up the main saw Ceranio the low-yard guy while Ingels was a no-show having suffered problems in the Scratch heaL Geranio led the first turns, but it was once again Houston who was looking good. He made the pass, along with Bast, and set a pace that looked fine until Bast moved up for a pass auempt that saw Houston down. In the ensuing scuffle of bik~ and elbows, Cook came up WIth the lead and the next lap found Houston still in the racing line. Mechanic Jeff Collard auempted to clear the way as Bast nearly ran over the downed rider. Cook took the win as the fans expressed disapproval of tactics with Geranio second over Bast and Curry. Jim Sisemore and Delacy had a great first Scratch heat while Ingels suffered a mechanical problem leading the second heal. Bast was tugging on his rear wheel when it happened with Curry geuing the favor. Houston and Linn gated well [or the third heat with Linn getting.thenod atthe checkered and it was Cook and Martin side-by-side for a lap in the final heat before Cook took over with the patented showboat atmosphere. Pau Linn and the Petrich Cycle/ Arai/Hi-Point Wes iewent for the cup first and pulled the wall as Sisemore was next picking the number two slot and Cook pulled [or third. Bast came up with the license to steal without drawing, but at the start it was Cook with another unbelieveable gate. Linn went for the rim ride and slid out while Bast took the inside road and came up with the second as Cook kept up a pace that was subdued after the Match race with Bast. Shawn Reppert is making quick work of getting yardage in Division Two. He joined the class just a few weeks. ago and won his first main over veteran Perry Sherman and a hard charge from the back by Mike Solis. Mike Kain topped the Division Three ranks with Joe Leonard a fine second place after a collision with the non-moving front straight wall. season, but only under some strange circumstances during the 12th round of Thursday nights at Baylands Raceway Park.
