CARMEL, UT, J L Y 20 Richard Wilk came away wilh lhe overall Open Pro crown LOday after lWO LOugh races wilh Mike Heers Jr., alme ML Carmel MX. Wilk blasted LO the front of the pack when the gate dropped in the first maLO, followed by Barry Hill, Heers, and Lee Pearson. Wi lk couldn't break away from the pack, and by lap three Heers had passed Hill and was camped on Wilk'~ rear fender. The Wilk/Heers battle continued until Heers experienced mechanical problems on lap four. Wilk went on LO win, followed home by Hill. Heers jumped to the lead in the second mota, in front of Hill and Wilk, who was in third place and charging. Wilk soon sLOrmed pass Hill to challenge Heers for the lead. Heers and Wilk diced desperately for a while, but Heers finally managed to pull away and win the race by a good margin. Wilk's 1-2 was good [or the overall. Heers took second overall, Hill claimed third, and Lee Pearson finished fourth overall. Alex Hill outdueled all comers LO take the overall win with a 1-2 score in the tough 250cc Intermediate class.
