The Alpine Suzuki-sponsored rider ran away in the Open Pros, never trailing in either race. Aside from his domination, one other rider, Scott Kilgore, put in two excellent motos. In each round, the Loveland Kawasaki pilot had to come from way back. Both times he reached second, but could never catch Mitchell. In moto one of the 250cc Pros, Derek Brown pulled the first of two holeshots. Right behind him were Four Seasons Sports Center teammates Corey Cope and Dave Newell. Within two turns, Brown had slipped to sixth while Kip Sandell and Mitchell jumped to third and fourth. By lap two, things sorted out some with Cope leading Newell and Mitchell as Sandell dropped back and Brown regrouped to fourth. Cope. Newell and Mitchell gradually pulled away and held their positions until lap nine when Mitchell passed Newell for second. Newell held onto third ahead of Vickery teammates Arlo Englund and Sandell. who had dropped Brown to sixth.
