Cooper, one of lhe firsl riders oH lhe gales, slOrmed ahead of lhe olhers lO lake lhe holeshol in lhe firsl mOlO of lhe Senior Mini class and he soon powered ahead of lhe olhers. Russell Radford kepl pace wilh Cooper, bUl was only able lO hold on lO Cooper's pace until lhe lauer pan of lap lWO. Cooper lhen began lO slrelch OUL a big lead. Aboul lhis lime Rusly Bufford, who was in lhird, had begun lO close in on Radford. AlLhough Radford's delermination lO keep pace and hopefully shonen lhe dislance on Cooper could be seen in his riding, Cooper pulled slighLly ahead so lhal Bufford was unable lO intimidale Radford. Billy Cantrell was in founh place and badgering Bufford, lhen passed him and sel OUl after Radford. Canlrell quickly advanced on Radford LO lake second, bUl momenls laler Lhey bolh fell. Camrell held on lO second umillhe end oHap five when Radford recovered second. Camrell slOle second back on lhe sixlh lap and held on lO lake lhe runner-up Spol; Radford look lhird. In lhe second mow Cooper slole lhe holeshol wilh ease. Shannon Brooker wasn't far behind him, bUl afler several jumps Radford zipped paSL Brooker in hOl pursui l of Cooper. Cooper pulled clear again. Canrrell was fourlh and applying pressure on Brooker, bUl developed bike Lrouble and had lO drop OUl of lhe race. Brooker couldn', close on Radford. Lucero was oH lhe pole in Lhe main, but he lifled off Lhe line and Lhal allowed lhe olher riders lo edge him imo 1Um one. Faria, who has been Lhe houesl rider on lhe circuil lhe pasllwo weeks, dove inside Dwyer in lurn four and look over Lhe second place Spol. Faria lried lo catch Pfelling bUl as lhe race wore on lhe gap belween firsl and second widened and Pfelling look his fourLh win on lhe colorfullrack in 1986. The win by Pfelling gave him lhe lrack leadership by one over "Boogaloo" Bobby Schwanz. The Handicap main evem was a sadistic evem lO say lhe leas!. h look Lhree Lries lo run lhe race and il was marked by a pair of grinding crashes. The first crash occurred when Scouy Brown and Billy Gray langled while balding for lhe lead. They blasled imo lhe lurn lWO crashwall and Gray was disqualified for me incidem. On lhe second auempl Mike Mazzacane and Cary Faas gOl logelher and OUL came anolher red flag resulting in Mazzacane's expulsion from lhe proceedings. When lhe race finally gOl slaned for lhe lhird lime Faas was in lhe lead, bUl he was quickly passed by Doug Nicol. Brown also gOl paSl Faas bUl he couJdn't dose lhe gap on Nicol who after five laps had opened up a seven lenglh lead. Afler lhe evem ended, Nicol's borrowed bike looked like a disasler area. The fender and lhe seal had fallen off during lhe race and lhe rear seclion lubing was broken all lhe way lhrough. Billy Hamill made lhe sevemh and eighlh Slan of his Pro career and he chalked up his seventh and eighlh wins.
