Oldenberg aces Spring Creek MX By Rolfe Otterness MILLVILLE, MN, JULY 13 Jeff Oldenberg, as he has done most of the season, proved to be the dominant rider in District 23's 250cc Expert class. The Yamaha-moumed rider brought down the checkered flag in both motos, winning with ease. The Spring Creek track was a muddy mess in the morning practice session, but clearing skies and churning knobbies leItthe lrack in fair condilion early in the afternoon. Olden berg was charging up lhrough the pack and grabbed lhe lead on the nexllap. Niemi refused LO admil defeal and sluck close for many laps umil slalling briefly in a lighl corner. He recovered quickly lO hold second over Rich Pearson and Sleve Krech. Krech LOok a cue from Niemi and jumped OUl from in the second moLO with Nelson and Olden berg once again running 2-3 al Lhe end of lhe firsl circuil. Olden berg wasted no lime in lhis moLO either and led by the end of the next lap. Krech and Nelson were leftlo baule over second unLil the checkered fell once again. Mike Graif took fourth in a comefrom-behind ride. Robbie Engstrom and Pal Donaho won the 14-15 and 12-13 Mini divisions, respectively. He passed some riders in his class and then the double vicLOry, but Rudy was focused on the gate and leIl everyone standing still. Sunday as he rode his Kawasaki to backto-back moto wins in the Pro class. . jeff Dodgen on a while-ligbtning Yamaha slayed up with the speeding johnson, but could nOl pass him in lhe firsl mOlO. Once again Dodgen trailed johnson until the checkered £lag fell. The 250cc class kept the crowd on ils loes as il was one of the besl races. Randy Atkins on a Kawasaki look the holeshol in the firsl mOlO, but going into the second lap was passed by a high-flying Steve Shinlever on a Yamaha. Also in the same lap, Robbie Campbell on a Cycle World Suzuki came racing by Adkins. Before he could realize what had happened, a very fasl Brent Cole also slipped by. Cole kepl the din in Atkins' face for almosltwo laps; Atkins found himself in fifth place. Shin lever crashed allowing Campbell to take the lead for good. In the second moLO Cole pulled a quick holeshol and led halfway Lhrough the second moLO, until Campbell and Shinlever came £lying by.
