Green broke his own record set last week, nabbing a 14.24, as well as winning the 250/500cc and Open Pro mains on his Hondas. A special Old Timer feature race was a one-time addition t9 the Fnday night program which saw many Expert heavyweights of the past come out of retirement, such as Sonny Burres, Randy Scott, Billy Oliver and Randy Skiver. The race was marred by tragedy, however, as Scott crashed in his heat race and was run over. He was rushed 10 nearby Portland via Life Flight helicopter .in ~ery serious condition. In the mam 11 was Don Dodge out front for keeps to beat Burres Ed Hermann, Pat MannacCl and R~ger Stanley (all on Triumphs). Amateur racing was the best it's been all season long. The best Amateur racing came in the Open main event, lining up 12 riders for 10 laps. Honda XR500-mounted Don Douglas came away the winner followed by Gerry OltO (Yamaha) and John Engelecke (Honda). Honda-mounted Mickey Fay, John Wincewicz (Yamaha) and Kirk Strong (Honda) were respective heat race winners in the 250/500cc Pro-Am division, and in the main event, it was Fay back out [ront of Strong until lap two when Strong grabbed the lead. The next circuit saw Wincewicz in the lead until the following time around, when Fay slipped into the number one spot after he 0 'ertook Oregon's' premier Expert. The lead changed lap after lap until Gre~n pushed past both Fay.and WmcewlCz on l'!p eight to settle mto the lead for the win ahead of Fay, Wmcewlcz, Honda-mounted Randy Roose and Strong, who was fifth. In the 750cc ExpertlJ unior/Pro-Am final it was the 600cc.Honda of Strong pushing to the head of the 12-rjder finale with Green, Donald WIlson (H·D) and Triumph rider Marty Zirbel giving chase. By ap two, Green had worked into the lead and refused to yield 10 a pesky Strong. Behind Green and Strong was a war. wagmg for third betwee Zirbel, Wmcewlcz (Triumph), Ryan Fisher and Fay. Gallagher wins at Tahoe-Carson MX By Stan Bent CARSON CITY, NV, JULY 18 Nearly 150 riders gathered to compete in the third running of twilight MX, sponsored by Tahoe-Carson Speedway. Mitch Gallagher's come-from-behin~ win late in the second molO gave htm the overall in the hard· fought 250cc Intermediate class. Gallagher passed Honda-mounted Rick Frock over the infield jump in the last lap and took the checkered and the overall, finishing2-1 for the evening, besting Frock's 1-2 score. Acrion was also intense in the 250cc Pro class. Dan Dossey nailed the holeshot in the first molO and held on forrhe win. The crowd's eyes were glued on the race for second though, as Robbie Hadlock. and Sven Still mock battled the enure moto. Still mock, rjding his home country's Husqvarna marque, was very aggressive but was hounded by Hadlock's Honda throughout the molO. Ha~ lock was riding near the edge and It caught up with him as h~ went down three times in the molO, gl vmg second to tillmock at the checkered. Hacklock made all his mistakes in the firsl mOlO. He gated cleanly and led the second moto wire-IO-wire to wrap up the overall. Stillmock rode hard bur couldn't gain on Hadlock an finished 2-2 for second overa . Rich Thorwaldson was the only Vet Pro 10 ride; he ran with the rest of the Vets and won both molOS, but not before having to dice with Mike ame! for several laps. VET Brown bags Port Angeles Oval RR By Jane Steele PORT ANGELES, WA, JULY 20 Hot ofi his win the day before at Olympia-Tenino.Speed~ay, Sam Brown made It two to a row for the weekend as he won A main portion of the oval road race program at Port Angeles Speedway. The start of the main saw Jane Steele grab the holeshot on. her Kawasaki 400, only to be qUIckly overtaken by Dave McWhirt.er and his Suzuki GSXR750. McWhIrter In turn was gobbled up' by Yamaha RZ350·mounted Brown. The fastest riders were gridded in the back for the main, but by the fourth lap Brown had passed the entire field. Joe DaVIS pressured Brown throughout the race with the twO riders exchanging the lead several limes before Brown's evel1lual win. Huff hauls at Neoga FT By Bill Holt NEOGA, IL, JULY 20 The Odin Racing Team and the Huff Racing Team both took-double wins at the Central Illinois Motorcycle Club season opener Sunda-y..The 19th ro~nd of the District 17 DIrt Track Senes saw Scolly Huff rout the competition ~ . the Mini and 125cc classes and btg brother Audie Jr. scramble to a comefrom-behind win in the 500cc class. The Odin Racing Team fielded class winners in the 200 and 40Oc<; classes. Mall Collier held off the competition for the win in the 200cc final and Les Schackman worked his way through the pack to take the 400ccfinal victory. SCOll Huff powered his Hondas 10 convincing wins in the back-to-back Mini and 125cc finals to lead off the program. The Senior class saw the Davidson E~gineering Yamaha of Steve Hopper rip into the early lead with Les Eslinger breathing down his neck. Hopper rode flawlessly but Eslinger found the weak spot commg out of number th.ree to take the white flag and the lead by finding s~me awesome traction on the low hne. Hopper was unable to re~over and Eslinger rolled on to the wm. The 200ccclass was a good warmup for the 250s. Matt Collier blew hjs Suzuki into the early lead and held off Terry Leffler for the win. The 250cc final holeshot belonged to Dana McNeil. Lap number two saw Shawn Wade and Bart Schumlbach slide under in number two 10 take over the one and two spots. Wade held on until the final lap when Schmulbach made his move for the lead in number three and made it stick for the win. Wade sellled for second and Dan Carrer and Ron Wade Jr. had moved McNeil back to fifth. Shawn Wade roared into the 400cc final lead early and had a going away line when Kevin Seivers T-boned him in· number three, pUlling him out of the race. The excitement didn't end there; Les Schackman's Honda had no clutch and got a real slow
