Lusk, Bradshaw, Nealdouble SC MX By Gary Crider ANDERSON, SC, JUNE 28-29 Ezra Lusk, Damon Bradshaw and Todd Neal romped to double class titles in 7-11,12-13 and I25cc Youth action, respectively, in the AMA YouthlWomenl Senior Southeastern Regional Championship at Secession MX. The event was a qualifier for the fifth annual AMAArnateurand Youth National MX Championship to be held August 13-16 at Loretta Lynn's Dude Ranch in central Tennessee. The top six finishers in each clas earned guaranteed starting at the ational. Three 20-minute motos were run and a rider's best two finishes determined his overall position. PJ-I/Hi-Point-backed Lusk was challenged briefly in the opening 65cc moto when Billy Cantrell grabbed the lead at the stan. Lusk, however, took control on lap two and was never again headed en route to perfect scores in 7-1165 and 85cc racing. Cantrell held on for third overall behind Ryan Reynolds in the 65cc class. The 85cc 12-13 Stock and Modified classes saw four motos of dose racing between Bradshaw and Hank Moree. Kawasaki Team Green's Moree had the advantage on the starts but Yamaha's Bradshaw eventually went by each time to net perfect scores. Bradshaw's quest for the perfect score seemed in jeopardy when he lost his goggles's roll-offs on the first lap of the rain-drenched Modified second moto. Blinded by Moree's roost, Bradshaw was uanble to pass until Moree slid down in a turn. Moree quickly remounted and pressured Bradshaw all the way to the checkered. Moree took runner-up honors in both classes. Trey Phillips posted 4-5-1 to net third overall in the Modified division but in Stock racing, Phillips was twice sidelined with engine trouble. In the first 125cc Youth Modified moto, Todd Neal had to come from the back of the pack after a botched start,. At the halfway mark, Neal took over the lead for the win over Joel Grant. In moto two, Freewheeling Honda/O'Neal/Simpson-backed Neal passed Grant on the first lap to win the title with a I-I score. Grant had to settle for runner-up honors over Danny Zullo and David Armstrong. Neal came back in the Stock class to win with another I-I tally. The second 51cc moto was run in muddy conditions and only two laps were completed in the 20·minute round. Last lap leader Robbie Horton talled just two yards from the checkered and Virginia's jason Harden went by for the win. While Horton struggled to restart, Jarrett Tipping and Ronnie Renner rounded the final turn ide-by-side for a photofinish that saw Tipping take the second posiLion a half-wheel ahead of Renner. Horton had to settle for a fifth place finish behind Billy otL Renner won the first and third motos to take the championship and said, "I'm glad we ran in the mud. I've never done that before because our Florida tracks are all sand." Harden and Tipping raced wheel-towheel throughout the weekend, netting second and third overall, respectively. Results WOMEN: 1.
