Battlin' Bast had Dan ChivinglOn contend with in the A Production final. Peterson's Somerset County Suzuki had the edge off the grid. but Cbrivington was close behind on his GSXRI 100. Chivington was trying a little 100 hard, however, and crashed on the entrance to the carousel. Peterson was left unchallenged and cruised to an easy win. The scene was set for the last race of the day. The B Production event brought Peterson, Tysor and Chivington IOgether for the first time that weekend. The trio launched off the grid and a fierce battle ensued for tbe lead. The action was close and the riders bumped several times during the race. Coming into the last turn Peterson was just ahead of Tysor and Chivington. Ex-nat tracker Tysor gave it everything he had and slowly gained on Peterson. However, Peterson had the edge and was credited with victory by a wheel's length. The rest of the day's events saw Bruce Nield win three-out-of-three big-bore events on his InterceplOr. Cliff iblock continued his tOlal dominance of single-cylinder events at Summit Point with a 40-second winning margin on his Honda 500 Ascot in the Clubmans Event. In 0 Superbike, David Murray was the winner in a race-long tussle with John Reardon and John Lowman. Cliff Bigoney scored his first viclOry as an Expert in 0 Production, leading local veteran Forrest Kearns over tbe line by 20 seconds. Cook tops Colorado AX By Ann Catalano ALAMOSA, CO, JULY 4 Arenacross returned to Alamosa, Colorado in a big way at the Coors and Kit Carson Motorcycle Club-sponsored second annual Top of the Nation Supercross. Eager fans sat through gusty winds and in threatening skies 10 witness some of the fastest mOlocrossers in the midwest contesting for $3000 in cash and prizes. Stacy Cook, riding for CM&H Honda, Hallman Racing and Boll~. came back 10 defend his 1985 Top of the Nation crown. He did it. but not without a bailie. The first mota saw Cook grab the holeshot with Mark Flesia on a Kawasaki right on Stacy's tail. Kevin Maret followed in third with Brant McCoy and SeOll Ellibra close behind. Tim Buchli and Bader Soderbeck started tustling in sixth and seventh which brought the two near the front. They displaced McCoy and Soderbeck, and on lap 12, Cook got stuck in the whoops for a second, allowing Flesia by. At the end, it was Flesia, Cook, Maret, Soderbeck, and Paul Lindsey with Buchli close behind. The second mota saw Cook grab another lead from the tart and hold it until the checkered, much LO the delight of fans who watched him in 1985. The moto ended with Buchli, Flesia, Maret and Brant McCoy taking the top five places. When the 250s left the line, Dave "Super Smooth" Newell grabbed the lead on his Kawasaki, and was followed by Buchli on the Vickery Yamaha. Newell and Buchli started roosting at an unbelievable pace but Cory Cope was in their shadows just waiting. He was visibly faster than the leaders, but couldn't find a route around. Then on the seventh lap, Buchli and Newell tangled, allowing Cope to blast by. Alter Cope made the Four-time Women's National Champion Usa Akin Wagner swept both motos in the Women's class at the Kenworthy MX Qualifier in Troy, Ohio. pass, he left them behind. At this point the lOp five were Cope, Buchli, Newell, Greg Herbold, and Kip Sandell. On the 11th lap, Newell mOlOred past Buchli for second. Following Buchli in third was Sandell and Herbold at the finish. The second moto had Newell motoring away to first with Cope in second, followed by Buchli, Kevin Maret and Sandell. The Open Pros had the spectators going wild, as ewell devastated this class, with lap times that were aSlOnishing on a short, tight track. Cliff Fredericks worked his way up through traffic to take the runner-up spot. The second moto followed the same pattern as the first with Newell reorganizing the berms and doing midair tricks that dazzled the crowd. Results 60: 1. Brett Rodmen (Kew); 2. Smiths shine at Kenworthy MX By Susan Willian TROY, OH, JUNE 28-29 The 1986 AMA Mid-Eastern Youth, Women and Senior Regional Qualifier took place at the 1.3-mile Kenworthy G.P. Club's track with 405 riders geared up to compete for slots for the Amateur Nationals. Bryan Smith captured double wins in the 85cc Stock and Modiued (1213) division, while Tim Smith ored the winning honors in the Senior 30+ class after defeating eight time National Enduro Champ, Dick Burleson. The first moLO of the 85cc Stock (1213) saw Jeremy Buell plod through the muddy course to take an early lead followed by Smith, Brian Swink and Eric McLear. Smith cruised to the front of the pack in molO two as Swink pressured 10 move into the front spot. Smith stayed glued to Swink's rear wheel until Swink went down in the supercross section for Smith 10 claim the mota win. McLear sprung from the gate in the third moto, while Smith, back in 10th worked his way around riders. The last turn of the race saw Smith pass McLear after 20 minutes of leading. Smith grabbed the lead in the 85cc Modified (12-13) motoone but crashed nume.rous times to end up seventh. Swink pocketed the win after passing Jeremy Buell. Swink took the holeshot in molO two but Bryan Smith shot by taking the lead and stretching it out by the end of lap one. Swink gassed it and held on 10 second, as Buell was pressured by Ryan Smith. Bryan Smith won with Swink second and Buell third. Smith was hot off the line in molO three as he hammered in for the checkered. _Swink and McLear had back of the pack starts and had to work their ways 10 third and fourth for the mota. Buell claimed second after finding the hotline around Harlan Bowser. Michigan rider Don Lynn plowed tltrough the mud in .molO one of the Senior 30+ class to lead from start to finish. Tim Smith held an early second but slid down in the mud and had difficulty getting back underway. He dropped LOsixth but worked his way back 10 second for the moto. Burleson went down twice in the mud for a fourth in the molO. Track conditions were improved by the second molO as Mike Home hot-shoed the start with Lynn second, Smith lOth and Burleson ninth. By lap two, Lynn took the lead only fora short time. as Burleson worked his way up for the win on his four-stroke Husky, while Smith pulled out another second. Burleson and Smith Opted not to race the third moLO with the overall win for the class depending on the finish of Lynn in the molO. The finish saw Bob Bean with the win, Robert Taylor second and Mike Gilleran working his way up 10 take a third. Four-time Women's National Champ/Dynamic Racing's Lisa Akin Wagne.r styled her way 10 double molO wins earning the overall honors in the Women's class. Results 125 B STK (12-151: 1.
