Williams doubles Firebird RR By Michael Ross CHANDLER, AZ, JULY 5 Mike Williams won the Superstreet C and Formula Two classes Saturday during round one of PRRO's (Phoenix Road Racing Organization) first night racing series. Willie Adams grabbed the start of the Formula class race on a GSXR750 with Kelly Byrd in hot pursuit on an FZ750. Byrd and Adams traded places while Brian Enos and Brian joder diced for third. By lap two Williams moved in to challenge joder and Enos. William's ex-Team Double Down Fj600 was hardly a match for the GSXRs of joder and Enos down the straightaway, but he was really pouring it on in the tw~sting back section. joder held pat in third while Enos and Williams finished in that order. Williams took first in Formula Two while Adams took first in Formula One after a race-long dice with Byrd. Tim Bergstrom won the Formula Three title with a sixth overall finish. Walter Nitto took the Superstreet race on his Curt jordan-tuned FZ750. Kelly Byrd lead the first five laps, but Nitto zapped Byrd on lap six to take the lead. Nitto pulled out a twosecond advantage and held it to viclOry. After a dead last start, Craig Martin blasted through traffic to nab third place on the last lap. Martin masters CRC Perris MX By Terry Rezek PERRIS, CA, JULY 6 Honda rider Charlie Martin cleaned up in the 125cc Beginner class at Perris Raceway during California Racing Club MX. Martin cruised lO two molO victories, beating Honda and Suzuki riders Eddie Subiasand David Nunez. Darin Green also put in two fine rides, but this time it happened in the I 25cc Novice class where Green easily won the first malO by leading from sta5t lO finish. In the second round, though, Green had to work a bit harder after Larry Laye stole the holeshol. Green set after and pushed Laye before crashing while trying to pass. As the race progressed, Green worked his way into third close behind Jamie MorabilO, then Laye crashed out of contention. From then on, Green just crujsed on in second and claimed the overall. In the 500cc Novice race, Kelly Doyle continued to dominate by taking over the lead after the first lap in moto one, and continued to motor on for the win. In round two, Paul Doebereiner nailled the holeshot wi th Doyle following in second. It took Doyle five laps before passing Doebereiner and settling in for the win and overall. Doebereiner finished second in the molO, as he had done in the first, and wound up second overall. Robbie Brand captured the overall in the 250cc Intermediate class with a 2-1 score, nipping Scott Murphy's 1-2 combo. Brand led most of the first moto before Murphy passed him after working up from a sixth place starl. In the second round, Brand once again blaste~ into the lead, while Murphy was fifth. Murphy, however, tangled with a rider and could only squeak into the number two position by moto's end, which gave Brand the overall. Results PEE WEE A: ,. Robby Ha"1mond (Yam). PEE WEE B: ,.
