Moran severed several arteries in his left wrist, lost three pints of blood and wes evacuated to Eng· land for surgery. English rider Chris Morton is credited with saving Moran's life with first aid on the scene. Sam Ermolenko earned eight points in semi-final action in Bradford, England on July 20 to advance to the World Speedway Final scheduled for Katowice, Poland on Saturday, August 30. Ermolenko qualified after a shaky start in Bradford, switching from his number one bike to his backup bike and improving his performance. Bob Hannah won when Johnny O'Mara ran out of gas on the last lap of the second moto at the Unadilla MXGP while holding a huge lead;O'Mara later presented Hannah with the gas tank from his Honda, inscribed "To Bob Hannah, Unadilla '86. Team Honda's David Bailey took advantage of a break in the AMA National Championship 500cc Motocross Series to take part in a seven-day triathalon school in Bozeman, Montana the week of July 13-20. Bailey was joined in the school by former Cycle News staffer Tom Mueller, now owner of Progressive Publicity, a Greensboro, North Carolina-based public relations firm. Ricky Orlando swept both GSXR Cup Series rounds and the Honda VF500F Interceptor event at an MRA road race held at Aspen, Colorado's Woody Creek Raceway July 20. August 3 is the date for the rained· out, rescheduled Sante Fe Speed- Editorial Gran Premio, S.c. of Mexico City, promoters and organizers of the La Carrera San Felipe-toEnsenada road race across Baja California, Mexico, have scheduled La Carrera 11 for September 20; the race is limited to 6O&c single-cylinder motorcydes and lOOOcc twin-cylinder motorcycles. Repaving has been completed at "'oroso Motorsports Park in West Palm Beach, Florida, according to road racing promoter Henry DeGouw, and the track should be ready for the August 24 AAMRR Suzuki GSXR Cup Series road race. The Mid-Atlantic Road Racing Club will hold a motorcycle exhibition race in conjunction with an SCCA car race at Summit Point Raceway over the Labor Day weekend. The race·will be run-in two leg~, one on Sunday, August I .and another on Monday, September I, with olympic scoring; entries will be divided into two classes, GTO and GTU, with riders classified as Expert of Novice.
